Cliched at this point but god the bridge onwards of Drivers License is heavenly.
(It’s 1:40mins of a 4 min song, I’m counting that as a second half).August 2, 2021 at 11:36 am #1204377266
I totally forgot about u by Kendrick Lamar. Kendrick’s most depressive, most vulnerable song.

I’d add Hard Feelings/Loveless by Lorde but that’s really just two songs in one so it’s not really a “second half”August 2, 2021 at 3:45 pm #1204377785
“I Know The End” / Phoebe Brigders is the hallmark example, which Finneas & Billie basically copied (but it’s ok, I love HTE, the song, not the album).August 2, 2021 at 3:46 pm #1204377787
Oh, and Taylor and Bon Iver’s “Evermore” is fucking fantastic once the second half kicks in.
But wait are we forgetting the original second half song? The Beatle’s “A Day in the Life” by The Beatles?
BTW I think that for this to be a successful exercise we need to think about songs that TRULY change gears, not songs that introduce bridges or slightly change midway.August 2, 2021 at 4:18 pm #1204377826
How about another classic? A serious gear change?
David Bowie’s Station to Station.August 2, 2021 at 6:05 pm #1204377943
Or, how many changes can you stand?
Mind blowing eternally: Yes: Close to The Edge.August 3, 2021 at 10:28 am #1204378941
The second half of Fantasy By Mariah Carey is pure heaven. I could say the same thing about We Belong Together.

There was a period of time in the early 00s when it seemed like every other alt rock song had either that abrupt change mid-song (think Broken by Seether/Amy Lee or Lifehouse’s Everything,) or a dramatic crescendo at the bridge (Coldplay with Fix You or the Goo Goo Dolls in Better Days.)
It was kind of cheesy, but I still sort of miss it.August 4, 2021 at 7:13 am #1204380305
