I wouldn’t be surprised at a B7 AOTY nod. In the recent years we’ve had a Prog Album and a more “traditional” R&B album.

We had multiple nominees that got in at both the Soul Train Awards and the Grammys in the same year before. They are not out yet.
ReplyCopy URLNovember 11, 2020 at 7:17 am #1203828948Between CxH & Summer, Over It has a likelier shot of getting in AOTY. It made a bigger impact on R&B. However, Ungodly Hour was promoted all year. Either could receive a nomination.
B7 in AOTY is the type of wish fulfillment prediction I’d love see come to fruition. Brandy needed that nod & Soul Train pulled through 👏🏾

I meant both of them. Only 1 is happening, at most.

This year the Soul Train are taking place after the nominees, so they’ll affect final-round voting only, unlike previous years.
I don’t think he’s winning though. There’s just 2 nominations (not even Video) and I understand why: “Heartless”, despite being totally suited for, didn’t have support from R&B/hip hop stations compared to his previous records; and “Blinding Lights” of course wouldn’t get these type of airplay. They nominated him just for a name check – but may vote for him at the Grammys if he’s the only R&B contender in AOTY.
It’s either CxH or Summer. I go with the sisters of course.
ReplyCopy URLNovember 11, 2020 at 7:27 am #1203828975The Soul Train Awards happens after the Grammy nominations are announced this year, so the trend won’t hold up. The winners here could possibly cross over to the Grammys in the final voting round.

Well, that was always the case.
ReplyCopy URLNovember 11, 2020 at 7:30 am #1203828992Let’s be honest, The Weeknd deserved VOTY & Dance Performance nominations. “Blinding Lights” missing the song categories isn’t surprising. But damn, Soul Train really underplayed his success & acclaim in favor of Chris Brown. 👀
He probably would’ve lost Progressive R&B to Summer or CxH. Submitting to Pop was the best decision.
