I envisioned this year’s Soul Train Music Awards honorees:

Artist of the Decade – Female: Beyonce/Rihanna
Artist of the Decade – Male: Chris Brown/Kanye West
    Lady of Soul: Alicia Keys
Soul Train Legend: The Temptations/Al Green/Raphael Saadiq

If Soul Train brings back the Sammy Davis Jr. Award for the Entertainer of the Year, who will it be?

    Lizzo
    Kendrick Lamar
    Bruno Mars

Soul Train Music Awards nominees are out. H.E.R. leads with 8, followed by Chris Brown with 7. Since they’ll take place after the nominees, I presume they will affect final-round voting only, not first-round as we were used to (with the Soul Train AOTY automatically making into the Grammys AOTY).

    Beyoncé – “Black Parade”
Chloe X Halle – “Do It”
Chris Brown & Young Thug – “Go Crazy”

Beyoncé, Blue Ivy, Saint JHN & Wizkid – “Brown Skin Girl”
Chloe X Halle – “Do It”
Chris Brown – “Go Crazy” Feat. Young Thug

It’s over for Chloe x Halle and Summer Walker in AOTY. The Weeknd is winning most likely, and he’ll get the AOTY nom.

I wouldn’t be surprised at a B7 AOTY nod. In the recent years we’ve had a Prog Album and a more “traditional” R&B album.

We had multiple nominees that got in at both the Soul Train Awards and the Grammys in the same year before. They are not out yet.

Between CxH & Summer, Over It has a likelier shot of getting in AOTY. It made a bigger impact on R&B. However, Ungodly Hour was promoted all year. Either could receive a nomination.

B7 in AOTY is the type of wish fulfillment prediction I’d love see come to fruition. Brandy needed that nod & Soul Train pulled through 👏🏾

I meant both of them. Only 1 is happening, at most.

Summer Walker could still win AOTY. The Weeknd is not really a fixation at these “urban” award shows.

This year the Soul Train are taking place after the nominees, so they’ll affect final-round voting only, unlike previous years.

I don’t think he’s winning though. There’s just 2 nominations (not even Video) and I understand why: “Heartless”, despite being totally suited for, didn’t have support from R&B/hip hop stations compared to his previous records; and “Blinding Lights” of course wouldn’t get these type of airplay. They nominated him just for a name check – but may vote for him at the Grammys if he’s the only R&B contender in AOTY.

It’s either CxH or Summer. I go with the sisters of course.

The Soul Train Awards happens after the Grammy nominations are announced this year, so the trend won’t hold up. The winners here could possibly cross over to the Grammys in the final voting round.

Let’s be honest, The Weeknd deserved VOTY & Dance Performance nominations. “Blinding Lights” missing the song categories isn’t surprising. But damn, Soul Train really underplayed his success & acclaim in favor of Chris Brown. 👀

He probably would’ve lost Progressive R&B to Summer or CxH. Submitting to Pop was the best decision.

The Weeknd could have still beaten those women in Progressive R&B. It’s more likely he would have been snubbed by the panel.
