The Weeknd just performed at the Superbowl Halftime show. What do you think about his performance?

(Feel free to discuss about Eric Church and Jazmine Sullivan National Anthem performance as well as H.E.R ‘s “America the Beautiful”)

    The blinding lights finale >>>>>

Best part of the performance me thinks. Overall I enjoyed it. It wasn’t the best but it kept me entertained.

    The Weeknd’s Super Bowl performance

    PROS

-Blinding Lights (it’s a solid performance and a great way to cap the show)

-the flash mob. That was really amazing cheorography and a transition towards the ending.

    – Earned It: it was a cute rendition

-Starboy: I love Starboy, so I mean it speaks for itself.
    -Abel’s voice was amazing.

    CONS:

-Can’t feel my face was just out putting with the Heartless background. Can we talk about the memes!

-the robots. I think the choir was a good idea, but the robots were… much

-save your tears & the hills performance: I think it just needed more than that from Abel.
    -The recording was trash.

the beginning is meh, the ending is amazing. I think it was solid, it just needed more, maybe another performance from another artist like Ariana or Doja, or maybe more renditions. That’s what J Lo and Shakira did. They could not headline by themselves, but were phenomenal together.

    RIP SOPHIE

For me personally the first half of his performance was a little underwhelming. Which is most of the case with male performers ugh. (Justin Timberlake, Maroon 5)

    The highlight was Blinding Lights.

Jazmine Sullivan could’ve done the National Anthem by herself 🙄

this. The more I look at Abel’s performance the more I like it. Specially the second half. He’s a grower.

As an Abel fan, Jasmine was the MVP on the day. She has a voice!

I had never seen the Halftime Show before, but I had to tune in to support The Weeknd.  After Hours is a masterpiece and I keep finding songs from it that I had previously overlooked.  Was looking forward to it being the grand finale to whatever the hell that he has been doing for the past year with that scarred face and bandages and whatever, but the commercials for the show suggested that that would not be the case.  They got me pumped nonetheless.  I guess that he will wrap up that narrative in an eventual “After Hours” music video.  We shall see.

The show itself turned out to be messy in a number of ways.  The sound was poor at the start, which should not have been a possibility for that budget and venue.  The Weeknd is not someone that I really think of being a “performer” the way that I do, say, Bruno Mars.  I am there for his vocals, so not being able to hear them and getting stuck with his jerky dancing and uncomfortable winking was not great.  The whole thing did not seem particularly memorable, which seems harsh for such a spectacle, but hearing that The Weeknd is spending seven million out of pocket on it creates expectations.

I loved it. Male performers usually underperform but he killed it. At the beginning I feel his voice wasn’t loud enough, but the technical team quickly fixed that. I guess it’s the price of not lipsynching.

It wasn’t great, but, with a lack of apparent contenders in the category right now, I think it could still make it into the Outstanding Variety Special (Live) category at the Emmys. If the Globes, Grammys, and Oscars manage to pull off strong events and the submissions are expectedly low enough to trigger the sliding scale, only then do I think it’ll end up missing out.
