I was fully prepared to not get a new Taylor album ’til 2025, but I am NOT complaining!
I gotta say, Taylor’s approach to releasing Midnights is exceptionally solid.
First, releasing 4 versions whose covers put together forms a clock encourages core fans to purchase the 4 copies, the maximum units Billboard allows for a single user.
Second, announcing its short track list individually would allow fanstime to absorb each.
Third, doing these exclusively on TikTok with the a specific hashtag would increasingly build up the hashtag’s accumulated engagement, enabling the algorithm to believe it is trending and hence effectively push any song with that hashtag.
I only wish she’d release a well-promoted single 1 or 2 weeks prior. Bad Habits would be easy to take down at 220 points and a long run would increase the track’s chances in ROTY and/or SOTY. But not giving a preview to the sound before the album launch will encourage consumers to listen to the whole album first day, hence outstanding first day streams.

Taylor has praised Lana’s songwriting in the past. Not surprised by this collab at all.

taylor seems afraid of releasing singles after the ‘Me!’ debacle, she certainly dont wanna lose that sweet first week album sales momentum if the song she chose turns out to be a turnoff to the GP..
there were also rumors that taylor got blackballed by radio stations because how hard she pushed them to spin ‘me!’ back in 2019; but even with zero airplay her single of choice could still easily get 600 points from streams and sales alone, so it’s clear that she simply wants the 1-million debut far more than a #1 billboard hit – something she will get on the release date anyway.
Taylor being blackballed by stations sounds silly. She’s a huge radio act. DJs were going to play that horrible “Me!” song regardless because of her name alone.
