It seems she shot herself in the foot with the aesthetics and not releasing anything prior to release. I’ve only heard a few clips and I’ve liked them enough as pop songs but they weren’t what I was expecting at all.
She can basically do whatever she wants at this point though. She clearly wasn’t looking to make another folklore or evermore and I think this will be good for what it was going for, a return to light pop with simpler lyrics.

Some of the posters here who were very quick to comment something negative and listen to the leaks don’t seem to like Taylor generally. I think it’s a bit funny to listen to even the leaks of an artist you seem to dislike but ok lol
I caved in and listened to karma and she’s taking that for sure. The rest of the album is giving mature lover vibes to me which isn’t an issue but I’m not sure how I feel about half the album being about Joe. Like surely there’s more that could’ve kept her up at night? There’s a disconnect between the marketing aesthetics and the sound of the album. But imma wait for the rest till tomorrow.
ReplyCopy URLEvermore and Folklore are two of my favourite albums of the decade so I was pretty hyped for Midnights. Unforunately I just found it extremely cringey and painfilly underwritten.

She also needs to DROP Antonoff. He is clearly unoriginal and burned out.
ReplyCopy URLI haven’t heard anything yet but clearly the biggest issue here is that she delivered perfect visuals & aesthetics for a retro-inspired soft rock album a la HAIM but she released 19Lover9. Perhaps if the marketing was different and we knew where this was headed, there would’ve been different expectations and less disappointment. That’s on her though.

I cannot believe that was the metaphor she went with. She is clearly trying to say she feels old in the industry surrounded by new and shiny people, but calling them SEXY BABIES was literally the single worst way to paint that picture.
ReplyCopy URLI haven’t listened to the leaks, but some of my friends really liked Anti-hero, which is becoming a single. Next year, even if the record really flops, I still think she could score a Song of The Year nomination and a Best Pop Vocal Album one. Also, Snow On The Beach featuring Lana Del Rey is probably not happening in Best Pop Duo/Group Performance since they didn’t accept I Bet You Think About Me in Best Country Duo/Group Performance.
To the ones who have listened to it, is there any song on the album she could try to submit to the Best Alternative Music Category?
ReplyCopy URLI love Taylor to death, she is one of the most defining musicians of all time and I think Evermore and Folklore were not just career defining albums but they were literally industry shaking, years from now people will still talk about how absolutely phenomenal those two albums and her career were,
I caved and listened to the Midnights album before it’s release and to call it a disappointment is an understatement, I have always thought that Lover was her weakest album so when I say that most of the album sounds like Lover rejects then you can only imagine how bad the album is, it has like four good songs and even then they are extremely forgettable.
Nothing could have prepared me for how absolutely horrible vigilante shit is, “I don’t dress for women, I don’t dress for men, i dress for revenge, Don’t get sad , get even “ this kind of lyrics coupled with the completely atrocious production is simply the worst song she has ever put out, the song makes ME! Sound like All to Well. I mean it baffles how she wrote that and thought she could release it.
Snow on the beach would have been absolutely perfect had she let Lana actually sing her own verse.the album lacks originality and imagination, she has handled the subject matter of these songs in previous albums.
I hope she takes a break after this, focus on the re-recordings and then release her brand new album in maybe three to four years.
