Taylor was getting sued for Shake It Off for the line “ haters gonna hate” and she won so I don’t think people are gonna continue to do it when it’s never worked out!

Who is Taylor singing about in “ME!?” The female character in the song has far more personality than Taylor does. Perhaps the song was poorly titled and written?

One of the problems with ME! (and your obviously biased post) is that the song doesn’t have enough of her personality in it, so I’m not sure what you’re going for here.

Poor baby is pulling out all of the stops to get that #1 once she saw them predictions! Reminds me of when Nicki tried all that she could to get Queen at #1. Except Taylor is smarter to not have a public tantrum.

Nas just released a vinyl (or something of the sort) for OTR. He’d most likely very safe without it, anyways. I really don’t see it for ME! She’s being smart by raising engagement amongst her core audience but at this point it’s definitely feeling kinda desperate. It’s just a very stark contrast from her last era. I don’t know if it’s her or her label.

Taylor is hardly starting off bad LOL! As much as I hate “ME!”, it’s served it’s purpose thus far. The YouTube record was broken, it climbed to #1 on iTunes, and is about to jump to #2 on Billboard.

I don’t think her team realizes that it actually won’t boost her chances at a #1, if I’m not mistaken live audio is counted separately.

But they’re really doing THE most. I hope this slows down after this week

I wish all this desperate promo never happened in the first place. A #2 debut is really great, but given how much she and her team have very obviously invested in getting ME! to #1 it makes it seem like a failure. Even despite its YouTube record and such.

I hope she realizes that even all the promo in the world can’t guarantee her a #1 (granted, if she released this a month ago it would’ve easily topped the charts, but nonetheless), and hopefully that leads her to make a more conscientious effort towards releasing singles that are of better quality. If that’s the case commercial success becomes less relevant and her artistry becomes the main focus of attention.

I’ll just hold out until we hear more, and I do believe she’ll pull through, but so far I’m not feeling this era at all.

People aren’t going to care how much promo she put into it.

Only stans and ATRL people notice such things. So I doubt it’ll have any impact.

The song might debut with 400-500 points. That’s still very good, higher than what other #1 pop songs debuted with in the last months (although they reached #1 because of lack of competition).

Her team isn’t stupid and I’d be surprised if they’d release a non eligible track that might compete for sales and streams against her lead single.

Perhaps the live performance, like most live performances in pop music, was not 100% live and contained samples from the original production (instruments, backing vocals etc). In this case her team can argue that it counts as a “remix” which would count for the Hot 100 and RIAA singles certifications.

True. Apparently it also counts towards pre-album sales or something.

ME! is doing decent in all metrics. It still boggles my mind that there wasn’t a mid week discount but that’s another topic. Promo strategies all happened too late in the week. All of the promo started on Tuesday/Wednesday with the vinyls/performance. She went from a 550 point prediction to a 680 point prediction so this proves that promo strategies still work if you have a fanbase and an interested gp but overall not a great first single choice. The song isn’t “bad” but it’s just so disconnected from today’s streaming audience. Sales and airplay are great but that streaming number is a little underwhelming and when the top song of the week is selling well, getting good airplay, and having monstrous amounts of streams that’s a problem. Republic did well with the playlist advertising but overall that only helps so much. I think a sale at launch or later in the week would’ve helped but Taylor obviously thought that doing phone interviews with radio hosts could fill the void for something like an Ellen performance.

680 points is the new prediction. Due to rising streaming numbers in the late week with slightly stronger sales/airplay then expected. That number also accounts for selling 30k vinyls/digital singles from her website. Some people are saying that number could be over 70k though since she sold a signed CD which sold thousands of copies in minutes.
