I have no idea what score will this get with critics? 80s? 60s?

The album was okay. Antonoff did a phenomenal job with production; it stood out more than her lyrics and voice. Soon You’ll Get Better is easily the best song on the record and is up there on her discography with All Too Well. I cried for the first time ever to that song, made me feel things no song has ever done or will do. Everything else? meh.

My initial thoughts: This is good. Better than reputation, not as good as 1989. I’m honestly so confused as to why anyone thought that releasing ME! as the lead was a remotely good idea, it’s literally the worst song on the album. And “Cruel Summer” and “The Man” are right there (“Lover” would’ve been a good choice too imo). The delusion. This era’s rollout could’ve been drastically more effective and successful.

Given that it’s 18 songs, I don’t think it would’ve hurt at all to cut some songs (or put them on the deluxe or something). There are a few parts that feel a little uninteresting.

I don’t expect that it’ll be super acclaimed, but not panned either. Low 70’s on metacritic perhaps?

As for Grammys, just going off of the first listen, I think it’s safe for a Pop Vocal nom. AotY isn’t happening, she just doesn’t have a super compelling commercial or critical narrative.

jack antonoff has a way of emphasizing the “flaws” in an artist’s vocals to make them sound more human, but taylor’s voice lacks the layers it take for such practice to be endurable through an 18 track lp, as much as I haven’t cared for max martin’s recent work, his echoes and double tracks would’ve probably helped this record

as far as the writing goes she’s still heads and shoulders above her peers, that’s just neither here nor there, even in the second half where she typically loses steam everything is still somewhat memorable, even me! sounds tolerable now

cruel summer and the man are the clear standouts aside from the ballads (her slower numbers tend to wear off for me), a few basic numbers here and there but nothing truly bottom of the barrel, overall a solid record

The album is better than reputation, but that’s all.

It’s complete nonsense that this album is currently 78 on Metacritic (her highest score yet) with critics calling it her « most mature work yet »… mature?! Are they deaf?

its only 4 critics so far, there will be more and based on the scores so far it’s probably gonna be lower…

Reputation also started off with a 78 and then dropped.

LOVE THIS ALBUM but despise “London Boy”. Like easily the worst song I have heard all year thus far. Album as a whole is an A
