Alina did you quote the wrong post? I’m a bit confused.

But maybe I;m biased and I am just seeing it through bts colored glasses.
I think you are looking at it through rose colored glasses. You are right when you say Grammy’s are a local award. They are. No need to pretend they are global unless they prove themselves to be.
Memories peaked at #2 on Billboard Hot 100 and had a run for 41 weeks. It was also #1 on pop radio airplay chart and had a peak radio audience of 144 million. It was massively massive as is all the generic Maroon 5 stuff is usually. Impressive streams too. Maroon 5 is also a grammy favorite in this category.
Intentions peaked at #5 and spent 31 weeks on the chart. Justin has been nominated in this category before so he has history here. Intentions had a peak radio audience of about 125 million. The song also went #1 on pop radio charts.
ROM peaked at #1 and spent 20 weeks on the chart. It’s peak radio audience was 73 million. Ariana Grande has been nominated in this category before as has Gaga who won it in 2019. Not to mention the grammys love Gaga. Ariana and Gaga had a big cultural moment with this song even if in my opinion it’s not very good.
Dynamite peaked at #1 and has spent 8 weeks on the chart. It’s peak radio audience was about 41 million at the time the nominations were due. Counting audience after the fact doesn’t matter. Pop does not have a committee so it’s a popularity contest.
That being said some of the weeks a song was on BB should be removed if we are talking 10/12 as a deadline but I’m too lazy for more math. When you get into the nitty gritty the amount of weeks a song charts if it was released towards the end of the deadline doesn’t matter.
Dynamite has not been more successful than the songs listed above, at least not yet (and probably won’t be tbh).

also jelly, you know a lot more about grammys than us. be honest: do we stand a chance?
I don’t know much about the grammy’s to be honest and yes, they have a chance in pop duo/group. Pop album is difficult since there is no committee and it’s just a straight vote. They have at minimum 6 artists in front of them and there is a max of 6 nominees (in event of a tie).
If the album/song makes it to top 20 then they have a chance in the main categories since it’s a committee. If they choose to acknowledge a non-english release that would be surprising to say the least. If they choose to acknowledge Dynamite it would also be surprising.

I admit to not knowing all that much about the Grammy process, TBH most of the music I have followed over the years doesn’t capture Grammy attention. Plus, I am still hurt that BlackStar was not nom’d for AOTY, not that Bowie would have cared one lick, but it just felt disrespectful to me that one of the most impactful people in modern music who made such a groundbreaking stunning album w/b shunned like that. I also found that VERY revealing. Just like it was revealing to me when another 2 of my fave bands: Arcade Fire & The White Stripes were celebrated & rewarded. Very few saw those coming. I clearly remember the days of the Stripes being heavily disrespected.
IMO the Grammys cycle themselves, intentional or otherwise, and especially due to the conflict & resulting press, committee restructuring etc, this may be a cycle year, they may feel they have something to prove. There could be LOTS of left field considerations. Past Grammy faves may not be HEAVILY favored leaving the door open for many, including perhaps BTS. One nom would send me into tears of joy, add a performance stage, PERFECT. I don’t dare pray for more than that at the moment despite lots of media references to MOTS7 chances. (Which while we know is unlikely, is DESERVING to be in the conversation.)
Time to go park on twt & start radio requesting Dynamite for the night, ya’ll have a good one!October 21, 2020 at 5:51 pm #1203795262
So just a couple of my thoughts for the day:
1. We got the Grammy BBomb, which seemed pretty off to me. Compared to the previous Grammy episode, they showed almost NOTHING. Like, they normally film the boys inside the arena, interacting with other celebs, etc.
2. We got the GRAMMYs Nomination date! and I don’t know how to feel about it. I still remember how Namjoon stayed up with us and you know the rest…
3. As much as i would LOVE to predict Dynamite as a lock in BPDG, it is still risky. I am going to agree with one of the replies: if BTS does not get a nom this year, then it definitely will say A LOT about how the Grammys (or better said voters) see them. However, i’m going to trust the boys and voters on this one and hope for the best
4. We did not get standard preorder links, and i’m getting tired.
5. Rumors say that we would probably get more BE promotions NEXT TUESDAY after TXT comeback…
And i think that’s itOctober 21, 2020 at 9:58 pm #1203795671
Thoughts on BB, I think there is a video recording policy or something, last yr the vid was offline for a month cause it was claimed by the RA. Soooo, maybe that’s why, but there could be potential spoilers from people they talked to that they didn’t want in the vid? Who knows for sure. Preorder links should hopefully drop soon. They wouldn’t make deluxe without a standard version.
Let’s continue to work hard and try our best this next comeback. I’m sure this album will be amazing since they continue to evolve and grow as artists.October 21, 2020 at 10:02 pm #1203795682
I don’t think BTS stayed the whole night.. Lil Nas x performed pretty early in the ceremony and they dipped afterwards lolOctober 21, 2020 at 10:21 pm #1203795698
The theme for the album is Carry on. What do you hope to see on the album or feel it might touch on?October 22, 2020 at 2:29 am #1203795775

Big Hit has confirmed that there w/b a standard version, so no worries there. Just wish CR would drop the preorder links already. Also hoping for a vinyl version, hope I am around to grab one if that happens.October 22, 2020 at 3:28 am #1203795807
I’ll be surprised if the standard preorders drop this week. I am expecting them Tuesday next week.
Also I think we’ll be getting two versions.
The information I want the most is if it’s a mini album or a full album honestly.October 22, 2020 at 3:44 am #1203795820

As far as I know BH hasnt confirmed anything. All i saw was weverse customer service mentioning it and kinda giving away that there will be a standard version but thats ab0ut itOctober 22, 2020 at 3:50 am #1203795822
I don’t agree. Globally it’s certainly the biggest of those you mentioned and the Grammys love to present themselves as global ( “As the world’s leading society of music professionals, the Recording Academy is dedicated to celebrating, honoring, and sustaining music’s past, present etc”) . We all know they are actually an extremely local award but they love to present themselves as global. Dynamite has has the biggest impact in the short time it has. Memories benefitted heavily from radio. As it stands now it has 900m spotify streams, and around 600 m views on YT. It’s also been out for nearly 1 year. Intentions has around 600m streams, but not that impressive YT numbers and also was a radio hit. It also came out 8 – 9 months ago. Rain on Me 406m spotify streams, less than 300m YT views and up until recently has very good playlisting . Did worse on the radio than Dynamite tho. Also came out 3 months before Dynamite. I feel like numbers wise Dynamite is doing better than almost all of these, at least Intentions and Rain on Me. And if you were talking US only. Idk how Intentions did on the radio but Dynamite is doing better than Rain on Me as far as I remember. And as far as Hot100 charting goes Dynamite is going better than all 3 I think. Holding better than all 3? ( Sorry if this is wrong I just know Memories peaked at 2 and Intentions 5 but I know RoM fell out of the Top 10 quicker. I think it was 34 by week 8) . Now I know Dynamite was sustained by sales but that means it had an impact on the fans at least that they supported the song. So statistically speaking I don’t think Dynamite did worse than those and culturally speaking idk how to determine it. RoM did have impact but I feel like that;s more on the artists of the song than the song itself ( which I know is ultimately what the voters care about with how many submissions they get..) . I haven’t personally heard of Memories and Intentions before I started to look this forum to see BTS chances but looking at the numbers Memories seems like a big song so I assume it had a big impact but did Intentions really have such a big impact? Dynamite also had a big cultural impact in my opinion. Other than being a historical achievement , it was semi big-ish on tik tok with the dance, it got lots of cross promo with samsung and fortnite. It;s finally reaching the gp I feel it . Worldwide it’s blowing up in Europe on the radio. It;s killing it in Asia. To be obviously disadvantaged in the western music scene which sets the trends and still managing to blow up like that is pretty significant to me. But maybe I;m biased and I am just seeing it through bts colored glasses. I’m not a stan of other western artists , just casual listener of some. But I feel like this what makes this forum interesting, hear the different perspectives of others on this year that we;ve had music wise
Hey, but you are missing EXILE there. Exile can totally win BPD/G.it’s the best song of all you mentioned.October 22, 2020 at 6:44 am #1203795977
Hey, but you are missing EXILE there. Exile can totally win BPD/G.it’s the best song of all you mentioned.
Exile has a (small) chance to make it yes, but it won’t be a commercial pick. We were comparing commercial picks here.
Also, we weren’t talking about winning and please take Taylor comments to Taylor’s thread. Thanks.
This thread is about BTS. Why do I have to keep mentioning this?
