Yeah, three songs on the iTunes top 10, all more than 10 years old, when the main performer’s biggest rise is up to #30 pretty much constitutes stealing the show, make no mistake about it.

Teenage dream and Prism rose to the top 10 on the albums chart though. One of the Boys also rose on the charts. Not trying to start anything here im not even a katy fan. Both ladies have succeeded. im even surprised i liked the performance so much. Missy was cute. but to me she wasn’t the highlight.

Congratulations to Grammy Winners: Jazmine Sullivan, Doja Cat, SZA and Olivia Rodrigo!

But lets be honest… who would buy a song like Firework in 2015?? It’s such an overplayed track… hearing it again yesterday made me don’t wanna listen to it again for the next 10 years rather than buy it. Missy on the other hand performed songs that were what, +10 years old?? I would guess most people haven’t heard her in ages and propably don’t own her songs. I’m glad she’s getting so much attention though… Let’s hope it encourages her to release a new album!

I actually think the same thing. Most of Katy’s songs were already huge digital sellers back when they were released, so I guess they weren’t make huge leaps because the generation that buys singles on iTunes that would want a Katy Perry song already got it. But still, what is happening with Missy Elliott is absolutely spectacular to witness. Her sales have grown an incredible 1000%.

Well, I was extremely happy to see Lenny Kravitz. Wish he had more air time.

Btw, I listen to music which is a century to three hundred years old or more. So I suppose “old” music is a relative thing.

    Yeah, Missy should have headlined.

I thought it was a nice show but it could’ve been better with just some adjusments here and there. The Firework segment was great although I felt the song was slowed down a bit when it should’ve been the other way around. That lion was insane. I think they chose way too many shots badly, they showed the guys working on the lion too much, some shots from the crowd were very awkward, and during Dark Horse they also made a few weird choices. But in general I thought it was a good show and Katy at least picked the best songs she had and didn’t go with any unnecessary choices like others have done before.

Missy definitely stole the show but of course that only applies for some of us because let’s be clear, 70% of those watching the show as Katy Perry fans probably have no idea who Missy Elliot is. For those of us who do know I bet it was an awesome moment. I know this segment was just to get the Firework part ready, but Katy should’ve done a better job with Missy, by this time she looked tired and completely unnecessary. If she really needed/wanted to be there then she should’ve done the Nelly and/or Ciara’s part of those songs because she brought nothing to Missy’s segment.

The whole beach part…well I’m 50/50 between uncomfortable and funny/classic Katy Perry. If anything I was bothered by her dancing more than I was by the sharks or beach balls.

I think people are saying “Missy stole the show” because we just haven’t seen her perform in so long. Yes, she was hella entertaining and I freaked out when she came on, but I think it was more the idea of finally seeing Missy on stage again (and KILLING IT too) that made people focus on her. I thought Katy’s performance was good. It was about what I expected from her. She’s all spectacle, and she delivered on that promise. She performed about every song you would’ve expected, didn’t take too many risks…it’s exactly what I was prepared from her.

And to echo the arguments above, Missy is doing better on iTunes because her music was popular before digital sales got big. Come on, it’s that simple. EVERYONE has all of those Katy Perry songs already. Saying Missy outdid Katy because she’s selling better on iTunes is just reaching for a reason to hate on Katy, and while watching her performance, I didn’t see anything to hate on. I like Katy, but I generally like a number of our current “big” pop stars, and maybe that puts me in line with the general public. Katy had to have known that Missy and that “Teenage Dream”/”California Gurls” design and those costumes would get attention. That wasn’t accidental. Someone doesn’t put an animated shark behind them at the Super Bowl halftime show and not expect them to get attention.

I’m not saying Katy was the best halftime show, or that her vocals were great (definitely lip-synced, but with a gig like this, I simply don’t care), or that everything was perfectly executed. This is the Super Bowl halftime show — we need spectacle, we need watercooler moments. In that respect, Katy delivered. Some of you won’t be able to look past her “artistic capability” or whatever. That’s fine. But the general public does not sit on the same high horse as you. Anyway, onward to next year. Now that we’re getting back to current acts heading up the show, I wonder if they’d perhaps revert back to a “classic band” like they did for about half a decade after the Janet Jackson disaster.

I wasn’t “hating” on Katy Perry there, thanks. That’s a very simplistic way to read that. I said that she did a better than expected job. Missy just did better, and the iTunes reporting was just stating facts. Missy got a needed and deserved exposure/career boost through this performance that I hope she capitalizes on. I did assume that a good portion of the buying audience sadly either didn’t know who Missy Elliott was (something she even tweeted about yesterday) or didn’t own her music already. That’s not the case with Perry. All of Missy’s performed songs were also reduced price, which was another smart move to widen her selling appeal. It’s a win-win for Missy, and just by virtue of being the headliner, one for Katy too.

Oh Atypical, I wasn’t hating on you (off-topic, but you’re my favorite poster here at GoldDerby). And I’m not really hating on anyone in general. I just think there are other people who are reaching to find a reason to hate on Katy and this performance didn’t justify that.

Katy will also be a “hate her or love her” pop star. Honestly, which pop star isn’t?

I do find it rather hilarious how all the huge Katy fans are teenage girls who truly don’t know who Missy Elliot is. Like, I actually laugh out loud when I think about that.
