Chromatica is projected to sell around or a little more than Joanne first week. So the numbers aren’t THAT shocking.

It’s expected for an artist of her caliber with a loyal fan base to debut in that range.

However, people will need to continue streaming/buying Chromatica. 1st week sales aren’t the be all to end all for an album’s success.

Girl. Joanne was released almost 4 years ago. Sales were different back then. Also Joanne was just 200k total activity.

Even ASIB with all of its hype moved only 240k. So definitely this is a big moment for Gaga if she can pull these numbers in the middle of a pandemic with little promo.

It’s actually surprising that her streaming numbers are HUGE for an artist who wasn’t that popular in the streaming era (minus A Star is Born). And after the okay reception of Stupid Love, I thought the numbers would have been so-so. But 275k is really really good!

“Since 2011, no other female artist will have more #1 albums than Lady Gaga—Chromatica will be her sixth #1.”

Again 200k+ is not surprising when both of her previous albums debuted in that range.

Now if Chromatica sold 400-500k, then yes, that would be a big deal.

But those first week numbers are in line with what Gaga has done before. It’s not a bad thing. But certainly not shocking.

Seriously, i don’t get it. Taylor’s lover and gaga’s chromatica are doing almost equal spotify no.s but how taylor did 200k SEA but only 70k for gaga ( prediction).

I think chromatica will debut with atleast 375k.

Nah Taylor Swift always had huge sales. Also much more promo than Gaga. Almost every Amazon package I ordered in the summer came to me wrapped in Taylor Swift’s Lover promo cover lol..

Oh please, TUN shattered almost every record for a female star and still couldn’t do more 400k+. WWAFWDWG? was a massive debut almost as big as Gaga’s debut, and still didn’t do 400k+.

So yeah, a star well into her thirties is not going to do 400k+ especially not with a gay dance album.

These numbers are undeniably excellent for Gaga and pretty much the best case scenario she can hope for. Again despite sales going lower every year, she’s selling more than the last 4 albums she released.

An artist being in their 30’s is irrelevant….

Beyoncé, P!NK, & JT are all in that age range and still debut with similar numbers.

It’s because they have core fans that will support their albums first week.

No one is saying Chromatica flopped. But to pretend as if those numbers are shocking is a reach.

    Longevity >>> 1st week sales.

Beyoncé yes. JT and Pink had massive world tour bundles. Pink had 40 dates in the U.S.

So you see, it tells a different story when you look into the detailed breakdown of every debut. Some are inflated by big tour bundles.

You can’t really compare numbers to 2016. If Joanne did 201k and ASIB did 230k, I don’t see how 280k is in range of that. It’s quite a bit more. Most artists numbers decline if anything. Even on Pulse, people were predicting 200k at best just a week ago. But yes longevity is what matters in the end.

Whether we like it or not, most first week sales are front loaded. Which is why I never understand why fans put so much emphasis on them.

Gaga was certainly selling merchandise as bundles with digital albums attached too. So it’s no different.

It’s not about how you start, it’s where you finish. Chromatica needs to maintain longevity.

200K+ is good but certainly not remarkable when artists in her realm are doing the same thing. No matter how you try to spin it.

Yes, longevity matters. And i think it gonna have similar chart run as TUN on billboard 200.

I don’t think anyone is denying that longevity is what matters. People are just surprised she opened with more than what was expected and more than her last few albums. It doesn’t mean they are dismissing longevity which I’m sure we all know is what matters.

I get it. First week sales are bragging rights for artists, labels, & their fans.

But the way the industry manipulates numbers to get #1‘s makes the charts kind of irrelevant.

Longevity should be the standard on which the success of all albums are judged. IMO.

Gaga is blessed to have a loyal fan base. As are some of her contemporaries.

It wouldn’t have made a difference if Gaga released a Gospel album. Little Monsters were going to get her to the top.
