Some terrible editing and sound issues tonight. They also could’ve found time for a Natalie Cole tribute performance.
The Taylor Swift hate is crazy in here lol. Oh well. I would’ve gone with Alabama Shakes.February 16, 2016 at 12:05 am #416631
Yawn. A boring GRAMMY year. Too many ballads, too many tributes, not enough variety, too many run of the mill performances. Even Adele sounded a mess.
The ONLY segment that was worth rewatching was Kendrick’s amazing performance. He totally deserved AOTY over Carrie Underwood’s understudy.

Honey, if Britney Spears can win a Grammy, why can’t Justin Bieber?February 16, 2016 at 3:25 am #416635
Overall, the Grammys were meh, my highlights were:
-Demi Lovato during the Lionel Richie tribute, she has some serious pipes and I think she needs good material to showcase her talent more.
-It was great seeing a Broadway show telecast on the show, Hamilton was entertaining and seeing a fellow Puerto Rican at the center of the show made me feel happy.
-Tori Kelly and James Bay, out of all the mash ups, this was the best one, their vocals and guitars complimented each other
-Carrie Underwood and Andra Day outsang their duet partners Sam Hunt and Ellie Goulding respectively, how are your duet partners singing your songs better than you?
-Alabama Shakes was awesome, very groovy, I was rooting for them to win AOTY and I loved seeing them dominate the rock field. It meant something to me as a black woman seeing another black woman being the leader of a rock band and I hope that more people get into their music
-Kendrick Lamar’s performance was powerful, speechless
-Little Big Town sounded great, they have beautiful harmonies and I can expect at least in country music that there are people who are talented
-Lady Gaga had a lot of fun with the David Bowie tribute and the B.B. King tribute with Chris Stapleton (nice voice by the way), Gary Clark Jr. and Bonnie Raitt was incredible, I also liked the tribute that Stevie Wonder and Pentatonix did for Maurice White of Earth, Wind and Fire, a nice acapella take on “That’s the Way of the World”
-Ed Sheeran winning his first Grammys
-Uptown Funk winning Record of the Year, happy to see Bruno Mars with a General field win,#PuertoRicanPride
-Adele sounded great and I didn’t know that Bruno Mars co wrote the song she performed, it was messed up about her mic, she pulled through
Here are some of my least favorite parts of the Grammys:
-I wanted to see an Arcade Fire type of shock when it came to AOTY with Alabama Shakes, Kendrick Lamar or Chris Stapleton, I was rooting for Alabama Shakes, however, I would have been fine with a win from Kendrick or Chris as well.
-I appreciated after Arcade Fire’s unexpected win in 2011 for AOTY that the Grammys went with artists not as popular in the mainstream such as Mumford and Sons, Daft Punk and Beck. Adele was an exception to the rule in 2012 when she swept with 21 and had a lot of popularity, however, I don’t see her as the traditional pop star like some of her other peers.
-Taylor Swift when winning her second AOTY win and her speech came across as arrogant especially the bit with the “I’m the first woman to win AOTY twice”, again I was hoping that Alabama Shakes would have taken this away since their music is up the Grammy voters alley of rock music and in addition to that, it would have meant something to see a black woman representing rock music getting shine. Once more, Alabama Shakes, Kendrick Lamar and Chris Stapleton were deserving of this honor
-Grammys need to re-evaluate the Best New Artist award, the Grammys could have nominated Trainor last year for Best New Artist, in addition to her nods in Record and Song of the Year
-The Hollywood Vampires performance dragged on for too long and could have added a Natalie Cole tribute since she won big at the Grammys especially with Unforgettable and her being the first Black artist to win Best New Artist in the 70s. I would have liked to seen someone like Ledisi or Lalah Hathaway (congrats on her win yesterday) perform a medley of her songs.
-No real left field or upset winners since the winners were expected in most cases
-It seems every year that the Grammys seem to show less awards on the telecast, I was shocked that there were no pop awards on the main show presented.
Overall, the Grammys was underwhelmingFebruary 16, 2016 at 3:43 am #416636
Perhaps this was already linked.
It is an interesting take on recent Grammy Awards:February 16, 2016 at 6:20 am #416637

The Weeknd: Lovd this. A
Ellie and Andra: Meh. C
Lionel Ritchie tribute: A+
Little Big Town: A+
Pentatonix and Stevie: I can watch that all day. A+
Glenn Frey tribute: B+

Adele: Idk what happened here but not her best. B
Skrillex, Diplo, Justin: B
Bowie tribute: A
B.B. King tribute: A
Alabama Shakes: A+
Hollywood Vampires: This was weird. C+

I don’t mean to sound insulting here, but y’all who are trashing Taylor left and right over her getting the big award are nuts. Yes its a bummer to see your favorite lose to someone that you can’t stand, I’ve been there way too many times myself, but when all is said and done, the awards are not what get the bills paid and even if they were what got the bills paid, what about those who weren’t even nominated for the awards in the first place? When the dust settles, only five acts are in there for each of them, so that cancels out how many others? A lot. So just be glad that so many people think that your favorite is even worth listening to and going to see in concert at least because not every singer out there is so lucky to have that big of a fan base.
God bless you and Taylor always!!!

Finally, Adele’s sound issues are explained!!
I knew I heard a guitar sound. Explains why she sounded off at times (it was the piano, not her) and when she outsang the piano, she sounded brilliant.February 16, 2016 at 8:22 am #416641
i usually do not comment much on these boards, but after nice set of this year’s Grammy nominations, i was hoping that the outcome will be good too.
don’t know if you read what Flying Lotus had to say about the process of picking nominees, but he also declared it really impoved over the years. fresh example? nominations in the rock field after instituing a nomination review committee for this field this year (rock album nominees were a mixed bag but you can’t have everything).
so with all these good changes aiming to pick good set of nominees, what failed again this year was the process of picking the winners. it’s a “name-check” process, based only on popularity of the artists. Lalah Hathaway? Tony Bennett? Meghan Trainor? Pitbull?
and after choosing really great AotY winners for th last couple of year, like Adele, Daft Punk, Beck, I was really hoping the Grammys will choose the best album this year. but they didn’t. Alabama Shakes, Chris Stapleton, Kendrick – they all deserved the award, but their name recognition in the industry wasn’t on the same level as Adele’s, DP’s, Beck’s… or Swift’s. unfortunately. i just hope Adele doesn’t win AotY next year based on this. lets hope so.February 16, 2016 at 8:35 am #416642
Another way to put it: Taylor Swift has more AoTY wins than The Beatles, Elton John, Billie Joel and The King of Rock Elvis Presley (whom only won a single Grammy and in the Country category).
Taylor is now one AoTY away from tying for the rocord with Frank Sinatra, Paul Simon and Stevie Wonder. Do people really think she is on that level of quality?
The Oscar needs to get rid of the preferential ballot so it can name a deserving movie as Best Picture again.February 16, 2016 at 8:41 am #416643This post was found to be inappropriate by the moderators and has been removed.February 16, 2016 at 8:48 am #416644
Why are people surprised by a Taylor win? She’s the most powerful artist currently making music. She has so much pull and charisma I knew the moment they started a segment on fair wages for BTS workers Taylor was going to win.
