That’s unfortunate. But in most cases, vocal hemorrhages are caused by straining the vocals, not smoking. However, smoking wouldn’t be helping the matter either. She just needs to put down the sticks for good, rest her voice for a few weeks and take vocal lessons to keep her voice together.

On a positive note, 21 has been certified 4x Platinum by the RIAA.

To discuss the poll on the front page, I think it would still be crazy to submit anything other than Rolling in the Deep to all categories. It has ROTY written all over it. The song was covered by everyone and their poo. I know Somone Like You was bigger than anyone expected (same could be said for Rolling…), but it doesn’t cross genres like the first single did. Or does Adele herself have enough mass appeal to where it won’t matter? I still think the safe bet is with RITD. This song is a winner

I would submit “Rolling in the Deep” everywhere. However, “Someone Like You” was a surprise success as well, has been praised and covered by many, etc. “Someone Like You” feels more like a SOTY contender, while I feel that “Rolling in the Deep” is more of a ROTY and SOTY contender. I wouldn’t be surprised if SLY is submitted to one and RITD is submitted to the other. They may want both songs to be recognized some way. I don’t see them just leaving out the biggest song of the year in their submissions. Hopefully, they didn’t mess up the submissions. I can’t wait to see everyone’s submissions, which should leak or be posted on the Grammy site anyday now.

Ahhh I really hope Adele submitted her cards right in the GF. Will “Rolling in the Deep” be her “Viva La Vida” and take the two GF categories, and “Someone Like You” gets regulated to pop like “Violet Hill” went for rock? Or vice versa? SLY is having tremendous success right now, that it is scary as hell hearing it on the radio all the time next to the other crap like “Party Rock Anthem” and others.

Adele really needs to stop smoking, or the same thing will happen to her that happened to Whitney Houston.

Aside from the vocal issues and tour cancellations, this has been an awesome era for Adele. I would have never guessed Adele would end up with two ubiquitous #1 hits and the biggest selling album of the year by far. She probably won’t see this type of success again, but 21 should form a decent following for her. “Set Fire to the Rain” and possibly “Rumour Has It” should push the album even forward. 19 will probably be certified 2x Platinum when it’s said and done. Hopefully, the Grammys give her the recognition she deserves.

I would submit both “Rolling in the Deep” and “Someone Like You” in the general field. “Rolling in the Deep” is the better record (send that to ROTY alone) but “Someone Like You” should join it in SOTY. My problem with the “Someone Like You” record is that I think it pales in comparison to her live version. I’d be all for a “Someone Like You (Live)” submission somehwere (the Jools Holland performance?).

It’s a shame that Adele is facing vocal issues right before awards season. She’ll be expected to perform all over the place.

Adele’s label should submit both “Rolling In The Deep” and “Someone Like You” to ROTY and SOTY.  The blue-ribbon committee hand picks the nominees in the General field.  So, they’ll go with whatever song they prefer.  Personally, “Rolling In The Deep” should be the song to represent the big four.  It’s the better song of the two.

Yeah, it’s a tough call, but I would say go with “Rolling In The Deep” for ROTY because there’s more production to it. I could see some voters going against “Someone Like You” in the category because it’s so simple. Plus “Rolling In The Deep” will hopefully appeal to rock voters as well, beyond just pop and AC voters. Heck, even country voters might be ok with ROID.

But wouldnt her chances of winning both record & song of the year greater if she submitted Rolling in the Deep to both categories, and Someone Like You to pop? History has shown that artsts who submit two songs to record and song end up winning only one of the categories (Beyonce and U2 come to mind.)
Though she has the advantage that its been extremely weak year in records, but still.

I was wondering this, too. U2, Beyonce and Michael were only able to win one.

And I wonder if the label even submitted “Someone Like You” because it impacted too late in the eligibility period and RITD is the one that dominated all year long. I don’t think RITD was not submitted at all. I bet that song is everywhere on the entry lists. I just wonder if and where SLY was submitted.

    Here are Adele’s Grammy submissions:
Album of the Year – 21
Record of the Year – “Rolling in the Deep”
Song of the Year – “Rolling in the Deep”
Best Pop Solo Performance – “Someone Like You”
Best Pop Vocal Album – 21
Best Pop Duo/Group Performance – “Need You Now” w/Darius Rucker
Best Short Form Music Video – “Rolling in the Deep”

What do we all think of these submissions?

Her submissions are right- on. It bothers me that “Some Like You” won’t be submitted to SOTY becuase I think it’s the best song of the past decade. But I understand that the best strategy for for winning both Record and Song is to go double-barrel with “Rolling”. And she’ll easily win both of those.

I think she’s a shoe-in for 5 of the 7 nominations. Music Video and Pop Duo/Group are questionable (though very possible). Adele should easily go home with five Grammys on February 12.

“Someone Like You” in Pop Solo over “Rolling In The Deep?”  Interesting….

“Someone Like You” is a big hit, the label probably felt that it was the better performance, and they may want both songs to be honored.
