It’s gonna be unpopular and no hate but Taylor’s versatility is a bit overrated. She’s been dabbling in pop her entire career. Like.. even her country music had pop influences and folk/evermore are alt-pop. She excelled in whatever she did but I wouldn’t say she’s taken any major genre leaps ….
She hasn’t drastically changed her sound but she single handedly creates the album with 1 or 2 producers. Hence she has to stick to what she knows best. I would say among all the main pop girls she is one of the more versatile ones

She is versatile but yeah she’s been dabbling in pop her whole career. To me only her debut album is full country and even that has pop influence. Folklore is more pop than alt.
February 24, 2021 at 9:01 am #1204058752I doubt taylor will ever do a completely new genre. Genre shifts when done wrong alienate fanbases and it can damage her career. I expect her to further experiment but mainly in the sub genres of pop only.

Lol!
February 24, 2021 at 9:11 am #1204058776I don’t know to me folklore and evermore are a complete departure of her usual sound. The lyricism and story telling is still there but y’all can’t tell me this new music doesn’t take risks. It has alienated some of her casual fans who just want fun pop and country bops from her, my sister is one of them.

She’s a living legend. In a few years down the line I can see her completely abandoning her old sound and trying something radically different and I’ll be here for it. At that point she won’t have to care about rollouts or charts or the usual pop commercial success. It’ll be just her, her music and her fans.
Yeah I too feel once she stops giving a damn about charts or selling out stadiums, she will do something very creative and experimental. But to ensure it will work among critics, she should work with a camp of writers/producers. If she sticks to herself and one more person, it might not work out.
