In my opinion, this “boycotting” thing actually helps the Grammys. At least now that popular and basic artists are gone, they’ll have time to focus on the likes of Charli and would have much smaller, intimate and classier ceremonies once their ratings drop and they’re forced to scale down.

Still you don’t give a reason Why Blinding lights was snubbed? It’s a good song with stunning production + biggest song of all time.

Stunning production on “Blinding Lights” of all songs????? What the –? Look, I know we all have opinions so here’s mine: “Blinding Lights” is definitively one of cheapest songs to be labeled a hit. I seriously can’t wrap my head around it. I’ve played it so many times just to try and get the buzz. Have our music taste buds fallen so low?????

Nope. Popular and basic artists : justin beiber, ariana, drake (lately). Abel is a great artist and he deserved nominations, atleast for Blinding Lights and in BPVA.

Justin and Drake, evidently. But I’d watch my mouth with Ariana. Positions (hopefully) is just a phase. There’s still some thank u, next in her. I can feel it.

And again, clearly, I’m alone on this one at this point, but After Hours and “Blinding Lights” are by no means “impressive” nor Grammy worthy. I may accommodate him in BPVA because, I mean, Changes is just an insult to every pop album released in 2020. But at that, I’d put Charli, Sawayama or Ware over Abel any damn day.

Look, i know it feels overrated but the reason is it is being overplayed everywhere, even now after 15 months. And yes, it’s production is excellent, better than DSN imo.

My personal but largely unrealistic ROTY frontrunners are “Savage” and “Black Parade” and I can say that imo every ROTY nominee (other than “Rockstar” and “everything i wanted”) really hit the nail on the head.

“Blinding Lights” sounds like it was made as a skip track on the album or the closure track to a Razzie-winning movie. Opinions remain opinions I guess. I just cannot wrap my head around the hype.

All The Weeknd had last year were numbers from some of the cheapest songs I’ve ever heard. I’m still baffled how a forum full of music buffs regard hours as anything other than a playlist of skip tracks. The Grammys make poor choices at times, but thankfully After Hours wasn’t one of them. I couldn’t care any less if he submits from now on. There’ll always be something much better. Stay pressed, Abel.

You’re aware some of the things they went with instead included ‘Yummy’ and ‘Dynamite’?

People are always complaining about picking too safely. What is a safe choice? A mainstream artists makes a project that is designed to appeal to the masses and sells loads and loads of albums/singles, the voters love it. Now a safe choice was shut out and people complain about that too. I guess the Grammys just can‘t do it right.

Didn’t they put his music into pop this year when in the past it was placed in a different category? Pop has no Grammy committee so the ones with the most votes get nominated. Blinding Lights and After Hours didn’t get enough pop votes to get nominated in best pop solo performance and best pop vocal album. He should’ve gotten at least a Record of the Year nomination but maybe pop voters didn’t know his music was placed in pop from past years and he didn’t get enough votes to be in the top 20 for the general field.

Do you think Post Malone is more deserving than multiple Grammy winner Abel for ROTY/SOTY nominations for Circles than Blinding Lights?

If you actually look at the history of nominations and songs that get in those categories, Blinding Lights should’ve been very very much been nominated.

Also The Weeknd is a multiple Grammy winner and not just some random newbie with 0 acclaim. A multiple Grammy winner has the right to question an unfathomable snub who arguably had a much much bigger and successful year than said nominees. The song by the way is also made by multiple Grammy winner / Producer of the Year winner Max Martin himself. Ya’ll are acting like this song was made by random people / producers.

Again, Abel is actually a multiple Grammy winner who had a much successful year than said nominees.

I would love to hear your analysis and explanation of why Circles / Post Malone getting in while Abel / Blinding Lights getting shut out from nominations.

Because artists like Drake and Kanye are still submitting

That’s because those artists are still choosing to submit. They might bitch about the Grammys, but they’re still allowing their work to be submitted.

We all know The Weeknd and “Blinding Lights” had a handful of things in their favor that should not have equated to them being shut out. And I say that as a non fan of After Hours and “Blinding Lights”. But that’s an exhausted conversation at this point and one that most here are I’ll-prepared to truly dive into the nuances of. While I’m definitely not gonna entertain a poster known for persistently saying low-key and high-key racist and racially insensitive shit.
