Secret committees should be removed in next year’s Grammys. ASAP.

The committees actually kept Justin Bieber out of the general field. You can blame Grammy voters (and the lobbying power of Scooter Braun) for Bieber getting into pop categories.

Things would probably be a lot worse without the committees.

    This is just wishful thinking.

10k hours was the only hit nominated and Dan + Shay have now won in back-to-back years here. I’m not exactly sure where the proof of a bias against Justin is. If anything these nominations proved the exact opposite

Exactly. Grammy voters are lazy and Dan+Shay will this category for a 3rd consecutive year.

Honey, I do NOT give a shit what anyone says; The Weeknd was intentionally snubbed due to choosing Super Bowel over Grammys.

I honestly think that there was some corruption going on too.

Please LMAO no he wasn’t. That story makes no sense whatsoever, it was just his team trying to save face. He just lacked pop support and R&B voters left him (since he did leave R&B).

Anyways I guess good for The Weeknd. It’s annoying when celebrities complain but don’t do anything about it (looking at you Drake). That said, I do feel like this will have 0 impact whatsoever; the Grammys have verb around for 60+ years and a single artist (who, let’s be real, probably peaked last year) not submitting is not gonna do anything. I wished he just got around with NARAS and worked on making the institution more transparent.

Also, I don’t get the committee hate. If not for the BRP this year we could’ve had Changes in AOTY and no HAIM there.

I do think the Super Bowl stuff doesn’t make a ton of sense. However, Boz, your explanation is a tad simplistic. It’s the basics of what likely was the problem but doesn’t reveal the nuances of it. And while I’m not a fan of conspiracy theories, I’m not willing to entirely dismiss them considering the instances of corruption we already know about concerning the Grammys. But his shutout does feel more about sociology and genre/race expectations than anything else.

Like I said before the nods were revealed, the committees and the BRP have too much power, and the way they decide the nominees is suspect. They should decide no more than half of the nominees in whatever categories and the other half needs to be based on popular vote, whatever the outcome.

It is true Grammys are not transparent, but again those asking for transparency just want to win the awards/get nominated, they dont really care for the process and only in years they have success, they call out the Grammys,  each artist can feel snubbed and some exclusively saying they wont submit, while the rest music industry is submiting is not helping for a change. There are labels, groups of influence, these can help for a change and we should see what change is that.

There wouldn’t be a reason for snubbed artists to “care” without having a vested interest in the process to begin with, re: nominations. Stop being disingenuous. The artist has to intervene to stop from being submitted, b/c the record label has no reason to do so. They’re only interested in money and the means of acquiring that. Grammys are a small piece of that larger puzzle. What Abel is doing is brave, and I hope he sticks with it. Other artists should follow suit. The fraudulent Grammys will only change when its been shamed on a widespread level.

Dude’s ego is way out of control. Just gonna boycott his muic from now on too. Just focus on a new album instead of complaining your not getting a shiny trophy Abel becuase you are coming across as petty.

I would love to hear your analysis and explanation of why Circles / Post Malone getting in while Abel / Blinding Lights getting shut out from nominations.

Idk maybe it’s, like, the better song by all means??? “Circles” was a clear ROTY frontrunner right from its release. The Weeknd was still under debate even up until nominations day, even though Gold Derby itself disgraced itself by putting him as front in AOTY, ROTY and SOTY.

Get fucking real!  The Weeknd was NOT “up for debate.”  He was a shoo-in for multiple nominations due to a very successful year.  There is definitely corruption going on with the racist ass Grammys.

there is no such thing as a shoo-in for any awards. Ever.

As I read about this, I thought about what Deborah Dugan revealed

Honey; I still believe everything Deborah Dugan said, especially this:

Dugan also said that nominations were handed out to songs or albums because the producer of the annual awards show wanted them to be performed on the show.
