Beautiful album. Less than zero is my favorite song and needs to be a single most definitely. The concept is so dope. I’d cut like 2-3 songsJanuary 8, 2022 at 6:58 am #1204704702
Brilliant album that will be hard to top by anyone this year. I wouldn’t cut anything – it’s his most consistent effort to date by a mile. Pop banger after pop banger, and yet it’s an album in capital letters. I agree that Less Than Zero is a highlight among highlights. I can’t wait to see what he does with this on stage when it finally can happen.January 8, 2022 at 7:41 am #1204704774
Not really feeling this at all after one listen. Will give it another shot.
Pantheon of acting: Uta / Elizabeth / Richard / Sandy (Virginia Woolf), Bibi / Liv (Persona), Sandrine (La Ceremonie), Brie (Short Term 12), Jodie (Silence of the Lambs), Jodie (Killing Eve), Nicole (The Others), Eva (Penny Dreadful), Timothée (CMBYN), Lupita (Us)January 8, 2022 at 10:51 pm #1204706754
He’s really stuck in the ’80s, huh?January 9, 2022 at 9:58 am #1204707553
That’s two in a row that I dislike from him. Slightly better last time.
If I had to be specific: Only “Take My Breath” and “Every Angel Is Terrifying” are goodJanuary 9, 2022 at 12:09 pm #1204707818
I was expecting the album to be darker and this vibe:
I found it enjoyable after a couple listens. It’s more of a lateral move from After Hours than an upgrade.
I’m gonna need more time with it to be sure.January 10, 2022 at 2:32 am #1204711564
Honestly, I didn’t like the album… For me it was a big downgrade from After Hours. Sacrifice, Take My Breath and How Do I Make You Love are my three favorites but I don’t consider these songs as something big.January 10, 2022 at 7:18 am #1204712224
I just don’t get the hype around making passable, but not anything special or idiosyncratic, faux 80s dance-pop music. But especially after what happened with the Grammys, the media is very pro Weeknd. So, this will inevitably get a good amount of sales and acclaim.January 10, 2022 at 10:52 pm #1204714380
the city pop sample was a nice gesture, probably also the only thing on the record I’m interested in hearing againJanuary 17, 2022 at 2:54 pm #1204734410
I finally took a listen to this (standard 51 minute version). I have to say I liked it rather than loved it, but more enjoyable than some other over-hyped albums. I wasn’t a huge fan of After Hours, at least not to listen to from start to finish, and this feels perhaps a little more consistent.
As expected, no critics are going to be brave enough to post bad reviews after he was snubbed during nominations for the 2021 Grammys.
Anyway I don’t regret listening to this at all, but it might not make it into my favourites list by the end of the year.January 17, 2022 at 5:27 pm #1204734686
Debuts at #2. Even if he wasn’t having his “i’m boycotting the grammys because they didn’t give me attention” thing, they would probably snub him again anyway. Not now
