Pop banger after pop banger, and yet it’s an album in capital letters. I agree that Less Than Zero is a highlight among highlights. I can’t wait to see what he does with this on stage when it finally can happen.

If I had to be specific: Only “Take My Breath” and “Every Angel Is Terrifying” are goodJanuary 9, 2022 at 12:09 pm #1204707818I was expecting the album to be darker and this vibe:
I found it enjoyable after a couple listens. It’s more of a lateral move from After Hours than an upgrade.
I’m gonna need more time with it to be sure.
ReplyCopy URLJanuary 10, 2022 at 2:32 am #1204711564Honestly, I didn’t like the album… For me it was a big downgrade from After Hours. Sacrifice, Take My Breath and How Do I Make You Love are my three favorites but I don’t consider these songs as something big.
ReplyCopy URLJanuary 10, 2022 at 7:18 am #1204712224I just don’t get the hype around making passable, but not anything special or idiosyncratic, faux 80s dance-pop music. But especially after what happened with the Grammys, the media is very pro Weeknd. So, this will inevitably get a good amount of sales and acclaim.
ReplyCopy URLJanuary 10, 2022 at 10:52 pm #1204714380the city pop sample was a nice gesture, probably also the only thing on the record I’m interested in hearing again
ReplyCopy URLJanuary 17, 2022 at 2:54 pm #1204734410I finally took a listen to this (standard 51 minute version). I have to say that maybe I liked it rather than loved it, but more enjoyable than some other over-hyped albums. I wasn’t a huge fan of After Hours, at least not to listen to from start to finish, and this one feels a little more consistent and cohesive.
As expected, no critics are going to be brave enough to post bad reviews after he was snubbed for the 2021 Grammys.
Anyway I don’t regret listening to this at all, but it might not make it into my favourites list by the end of the year.
