It’s one thing to only be nominated in the genre categories, it’s a whole ‘nother issue to be totally snubbed. The Weeknd’s zero nominations smell very very fishy. Something definitely went on behind-the-scenes.

No shade but is it possible that The Weekend could have turned voters off by his awkward acceptance speeches? He just doesn’t come off very relatable or friendly. He also looked a damn mess everywhere.

Congratulations Taylor Swift on 6 Grammy Nominations

I wish I didn’t but I 100% believe it or at least some version of this story.

The Grammy producers plan and make deals for their performances long before even the nominations come out. This is a fact. There have been past conflicts with artists having to decide if they will either perform at the AMAs or the Grammys. The Recording Academy likes to guarantee “Grammy exclusive” performances.

We can make a lot of excuses for The Weeknd missing out on a lot of nominations, but there is really no excuse for him missing out on at a least a single nom for “Blinding Lights.” It’s STILL a Top 10 song TODAY even though it came out last year!

Post Malone (in a similar scenario) wasn’t nominated in any genre field and yet the Blue Ribbon Panel was willing to give him 3 noms, but The Weeknd none???

Its absolutely insane and disgusting for the Grammy committee to hedge award nominations based upon an artist performing. ESPECIALLY win performing is no guarantee of a win.

Michael Jackson’s Bad was the best selling album of 88. He got four grammy noms and performed at the ceremony. He won ZERO

Kendrick Lamar got 5 nominations in 2013 for Good Kid m.A.A.d City. He performed at the ceremony. He won ZERO awards

India Arie got 7 nominations in 2002 for her debut Acoustic Soul. She performed at the ceremony. She won ZERO awards.

In contrast, Performing at the Super Bowl always leads to a HUGE uptick in sales for the performing artist. This will be the BIGGEST performance of The  Weeknd’s career to date. Trying to force him to choose is evil.

There’s really no logical reason to explain The Weeknd snub. I think it might be the case again that almost no one voted for these nominations. So Bieber only needed a handful of the people in Scooters network to vote for him. Ususally I don’t agree with artists getting angry over snubs, cause popularity doesn’t warrant a nomination. But zero nominations for the After Hours era is really just ridicilious. The Grammy’s should fix their shit.

The Weeknd’s basically ruined any chance he ever has at getting a grammy nom again. When reputation only got one nomination Taylor was upset but she took the loss and moved on, he should have just done the same.

True. She definately handled it well.

This is absolutely outrageous. So done with the Grammys.

Lol Kanye West PISSED on one his Grammy Awards and live streamed it to thousands of his IG followers and still wound up with a nomination….

The snub this year the Weeknd is sickening but lets not act like him calling out the BS means some lifetime ban. If anything the Academy will try to course correct the next time he’s eligible and over-nominate him in 2023 or whenever he drops a new project

Has she ever been completely snubbed after being predicted to sweep? I don’t think it’s the same thing.

But The Weeknd posting a couple of tweets about being snubbed is kinda… weak and ineffective.

If there was indeed some corruption behind the scenes regarding the Grammys and Superbowl, it would have been more effective for him to stay quiet until the Superbowl and use his Half-time Show as an opportunity to address the snub. It would have been buzz-worthy and quite iconic. He could still do that, of course. But tweeting his frustrations about the Grammys in an entitled way is lame and predictable to me.

His tweet about Grammy corruption also has over a million likes. It did its job.

There are plenty of tweets that get millions of likes and retweets, and they’re forgotten about days later. That’s not effective, and we get those every season.

Like I said and I will continue to say: The Weeknd has a chance to truly make a long-lasting statement at the Super Bowl this winter that a couple of liked tweets won’t have in the long run.

It’s not ineffective. This controversy even made the Academy president give a half-assed statement about inclusion and “diversity” as PR spin. It’s not going away, and the tweet did its job in addressing his fanbase. A Super Bowl stunt just to do something would be tacky and inappropriate.

Ariana’s positions announcement got 1.2 million likes and 1st week sales were 172k.
