My opinion of Red is not that harsh, but I do think it’s Taylor’s worst album by far aside from her debut. Like the poster above said, it’s not cohesive at all: it’s this odd mash of Pop and Country that completely clash with each other at all times. WANEGBT, I Knew You Were Trouble, and 22 don’t even sound like they belong in the same album as the rest of the songs on Red, which is just so bizarre. There’s also Stay Stay Stay, which is just awful-easily the worst Taylor Swift song I’ve ever heard-and the afformented We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together, which is okay, but problematic because it set the mold for the cookie-cutter Taylor lead single mold with the over-the-top vocals and obnoxious spoken segment that would become much worse in the Reputation and Lover eras with LWYMMD and Me!. And then there’s the fact that Red is so chock full of slow songs that completely drag down the pace of the album. It’s also far too long: 18 tracks is just too many.

I think the reason why Red is fondly remembered is because of it’s sky-high highs, which really are great. I Knew You Were Trouble is still my favorite Taylor Swift song, and Starlight is now in my Top 3. All Too Well is a phenomenally written, underrated ballad that inspired a lot of the slow songs in Reputation and Lover and all of folklore, 22 is still a super catchy pop anthem, and Taylor’s chemistry with Ed Sheeran in Everything Has Changed and Gary Lightbody in The Last Time (which is very reminiscent of exile) is excellent. Not to mention it has some of her absolute best writing in it. People remember these highs and selectively forget that it just doesn’t work as a cohesive album.

    What’s your Taylor album ranking?

I was listening to reputation. and Look What You Made Me Do is her worst song. Taylor in the past really cant pick lead singles: Shake it Off, Look What You Made Me Do, and Me! when you had…

    Blank Space/Style, Delicate/Endgame, Lover/Paper Rings/Cruel Summer

    10/10:

Fetch the Bolt Cutters, After Hours, RTJ4, and What's Your Pleasure?

Getaway Car should’ve been a single, that song is great.

She picks her lead singles as a marketing strategy rather than focusing on the music, which is smart to bring in her coin but they really are the worst songs on the albums.

Can we agree that Cardigan is her best lead singles in years?
