Sweetener is so well produced. The only reason that some songs are skips is that they are bad lyrically (blazed, title track, etc.) Her and Pharrell did not have great writing chemistry, she writes her best songs with Max Martin and his team.

Complete opposite for me. I don’t mind it lyrically but the production is unlistenable on many tracks. Sweetener does still have some very very strong highlights, NTLTC, GIAW, breathin, get well soon and goodnight n go are excellent. Maybe I’ll try relistening at some point today and see if I find it better than I remember.

Toni Braxton belongs in the same conversation as Whitney, Mariah, & Celine. She debuted big around the same time those three were dominating the charts and sustained success until the early 2000’s just like they did too.

L.A. Reid even admitted on Behind the Music that Toni was LaFace’s ‘diva’ in direct competition with the Vocal Trinity.

    Accolades are investment.

Very few people in the future are going to actually have the time to listen any random album from their past. They’ll first head straight to the Grammys (big mistake imo). Either that or they head to the likes of Rolling Stone or Pitchfork.

An artist’s legacy can be boosted by either, but it helps to have both.

When an artist has rave reviews but 0 Grammy nods, it begs the question “Was it even that good?” “Was it just some indie Rockstar?” (e.g. Joni Mitchell’s Blue)

When the work sweeps the Grammys but not so much critical acclaim, it begs the question “Why exactly did this win?” (e.g. Bruno Mars’s 24k Magic)

But when there’s both Grammy love and critical acclaim, you’re certain that the album should be worth your time. (e.g. U2’s The Joshua Tree)

But I think only people who are really really into music check reviews and grammys. Most people don’t, the average joe wouldn’t be able to tell you who got aoty 3 years ago, much less 50 years ago. I think most people don’t really care anyway. The artists whose names and music live on will be the ones future teens naturally listen, iconic names who made a dent on culture like how we remember and listen to Elvis, Beatles, Queen, Rolling Stones, Diana Ross, Madonna, ABBA, Whitney, Michael and many others without knowing how awarded or reviewed they were. Of course it’s a legacy and an honor, but I think most regular people just don’t care that much and won’t know about it

    Fuck this account
edit: Fuck this racist, sexist, homophobic account.

If you are under the impression that I have forgotten the little people, we who love country music do no such thing. Thank you for your help in getting this turtle up on to the fence post that it has been sitting on all of this time. (smiles)

    God bless you always!!!

Now that I think about it, can the new duet from LeAnn Rimes and an African American male singer named Aloe Blacc named “I Do” be submitted for that Best Pop Duo/Group Performance award? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g4rRrAVG2XM God bless you and LeAnn and her collaborator always!!! Holly (a day one fan of her) P.S. It is okay to referred to that Aloe guy as an African American male since that is what he is, right? In this day in age, it sounds like it doesn’t matter how they are labeled. A person is just automatically considered racist just for addressing the skin color matter in any way at all period. (shaking my head)

    What?

No. Your dismissal of black people and issues are what going to label you a racist. Learn your history… Black people were enslaved and were considered lesser than white people decades/centuries ago.

Although we’ve come far from that, there are certain privileges, equal opportunities, etc. that are just not available to them.

Systemic racism…You just don’t get it. It’s not just about people it’s about institutions, etc.

What dismissal of black people? Asking about one who sings is what I have done. Waiting on an answer still for the record is actually what I am doing now.

God bless you and the singer always!!!

I’m not answering you on the Grammys Prediction thread.

Well you can answer what I ask here, if you have an answer that is a legitimate one that is. What can this recording be submitted for?

I don’t know. If she’s in country maybe country I guess. Pop?

They lack buzz, narrative, etc. But she has acclaim apparently. A lot factors are involved in scoring a nomination.

Europeans make much better music than Americans.
