Get real! Lil Nas X should NOT have lost Best Pop Duo/Group Performance to the shitty Jonas Brothers (BARF!). Pure delusion. Lil Nas X deserved both of his Grammy wins.

Yeah I was gonna retract the Jonas one maybe. But I don’t think you’ve seen the video for “Cellophane.”

“Beautiful Day” is great, but “Music” deserved ROTY.

I love “Future Nostalgia”. It’s a great record. However, I still feel like there is something missing there. Maybe it is the fact that it does not (for me) feel like a personal-could-only-be-done-by-that-artist sort of thing.
With that said, I still love it and it has no obligation to be that. Dua still is on the early years of her career and I’m sure in the future will have a sound that is recognizable as truly hers.
Just wouldn’t put it next to pop masterpieces like “The Fame Monster” and “1989”.

Fn is better than 1989 in terms of quality and cohesiveness

I can agree with you that “Future Nostalgia” is a cohesive project. But so is “1989”.

And quality is subjective. For me, “1989” is miles ahead of “Future Nostalgia” is terms of quality.

Um, when I think “pop masterpiece,” my mind goes to Joni Mitchell’s Blue, Michael Jackson’s ThrillerRumours too. 1989 and The Fame Monster don’t strike as the GOATs of Pop, and no, it’s not because they’re not old.

Honestly, thank u, next is such a good album. I’d put in my top 10 pop albums of the last decade and top 50 overall. Yeah, I said it.

My unpopular opinion is that people give Lorde a bit too much. She’s good, she’s an accomplished songwriter but I don’t think she’s done truly anything exceptional with Melodrama. I don’t think it’s a sound that’s never been done before and I can trace a lot of lorde’s style back to Lana Del Rey maybe. That whole teensy angst aesthetic was a bit tired and I don’t think we’ve seen enough of her songwriting to put her up with the goats. I really hope she lets that aesthetic go for L3.

Also, Melodrama might have deserved an AOTY nom but not a win. Both DAMN. and 24K Magic were much more deserving projects.

    Random (extremely) unpopular opinion:

It’s going to be a very sad season if Olivia Rodrigo sweeps the GF Grammy noms. I can liken her musicality to basic and formulaic ripoffs of other artists, with lyrics that sound like they were written by an angry Disney pre-teen. Her music is not even worthy of Lorde’s, Billie’s or Taylor’s shoes.

FYC | Best music this season:

Marina - Ancient Dreams In A Modern Land
Arlo Parks - Collapsed In Sunbeams
    St. Vincent - Daddy's Home
    Jazmine Sullivan - Heaux Tales
    Wolf Alice - Blue Weekend

Unfortunately Olivia will likely get in all 4 GF categories. 2021 is a weak year in terms of strong contenders and her music has made a solid impact. That BNA award is hers to lose.

However, I agree with your sentiments. Olivia is overrated.

She hasn’t even been nominated for one lol. She might underperform big time.

She doesn’t even have not a single album out yet. What is going on 😂

Without a panel, Olivia could likely over perform in GF nominations. Especially if SOUR lives up to the hype. I’m not a fan of her music but she’s definitely garnered the interest of a core audience that will support it first week. And with no huge releases on the horizon it might sustain longevity.
