I know there were threads about unpopular opinions months/years ago, but what are some of your unpopular opinions regarding music of 2022?
ReplyDecember 12, 2022 at 12:10 pm #1205191370There is no other place other than the United States, such a self absorbed and spectacle driven country, that could have possibly produced something so atrocious as Britney Spears and her wannabes. Really a cultural downfall and the pinnacle of the celebration of mediocrity, which now has turned into a funeral as we lament over her “over-exposure” as if her label wasn’t giving free copies of her albums in Walmarts, selling dolls and panties and whatever other product they deemed fit for this cabaret dancer using department clothing targeted towards young girls who were supposed to aim to be like her.
Now that it backfired, it’s tragedy, but when this prissy girl with a pink stripe on her hair, whose media personality back then consisted on infantile vocals over a stale electronic beat was broadcasted voicing her support for the Iraq invasion and commending Bush for “being the president” and saying “everyone should trust the president”, it was just another day.
I honestly can’t feel pity for her. I am actually quite glad she is done.

December 12, 2022 at 2:55 pm #1205191699Metacritic doesn’t mean sh!t to Grammy voters. Not sure why some use those scores to justify why certain artists will be nominated. Also, the alphabetical theories might be a bit overstated.
ReplyCopy URLDecember 12, 2022 at 4:16 pm #1205191875K-pop just leeches and steals from different genres and does it worse. It is unoriginal in every way and is only popular due to aesthetic and people that have a weird fetish towards East Asian people.
ReplyCopy URLDecember 13, 2022 at 1:33 am #1205192468Adele’s whiny ballads are too much, it’s already annoying and sickening. She is so talentless that she cannot write or sing anything else.

This is just… objectively true? I don’t know if anyone who actually understands music theory and vocal technique and shit doesn’t agree with this or thinks it’s unpopular. This would only be unpopular among the general public, most of whom probably couldn’t even find middle C on a piano.

I agree with everything except Gaga being a better vocalist than Adele. A better performer? Yes. Better singing technique? Yes. Just not a better vocalist.
While Gaga has a remarkable vibrato, I feel she inhibits her vocals when hitting high notes, just like Bruno Mars. Sustaining a high note especially sounds much better and louder with an open throat, which I believe you know is termed “singing into the mask”.
In “To Be Loved”, Adele really “sings into the mask”. Again in “Hello”, “When We Were Young” and the whole of 25, Adele transitions to Falsetto very smoothly. I’m assuming you already know that these 2 styles made “I Will Always Love You” the vocal masterpiece it is.
Compare Adele’s performance of “All I Ask” to Bruno’s, skip to the line “this is my last night with you”. https://youtu.be/oCtYekG1qBc vs https://youtu.be/IRXoLDPddkU It’s the best comparison since I don’t know any Gaga and Adele performance that are comparable. Adele & Bruno sang in the same keys and both artists hit similar notes comfortably.
Gaga is very technical while Adele needs better comportment. With Paul Epworth, this wasn’t a problem. In RITD, the first line of the chorus demonstrates the first technique, the second line uses the second technique I mentioned. Her vocals did not sound airy as it feels sometimes these days, I won’t name which songs to avoid the trolls being silly.
In her interview with Elle, she noted that for 30, her producers insisted that she sang in a lower, somber and more articulated manner. Noticeably, “Strangers By Nature” was tame and EOM projected her great use of falsetto. I don’t really want Adele singing contralto ofc hence I want her next album to be overseen by Paul Epworth.

she made happier than ever (song) so i don’t care if she wants to drown in honey before singing, one or two songs will come out outstanding
ReplyCopy URLDecember 14, 2022 at 3:55 am #1205193891Taylor Swift sounds so basic to me. Like it’s good but not remarkable, folklore is the only album that I can truly justify her getting aoty but her other wins are so iffy to me. Like there are people way more deserving than her and the quality of her work is being overplayed by her fans.
