Harry was competing with a different song in the General Field though “Adore You” deserve to be nominated for Song of the Year.

Typing the long paragraphs isn’t going to change my view on this. There is no indication that Harry Styles is beloved. Saying that Harry overperformed is a tall tale and we know it. The big discussion around here was Adele possibly losing her streak the whole season, and Harry Styles being the one that would do it. He did it. He just won AOTY instead of ROTY.

We don’t know if Ed Sheeran would have beaten Bruno Mars, but the fact remains that he was blocked and that was revealed by Deborah Dugan. Harry is more or less on the same spectrum with Sam and Ed during their commercial peaks. Until I see a clean sweep or industry people praising him to high levels like a Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, Beyoncé or even Adele during her commercial/critical reign, then he’s nothing more than a successful pop artist who has some industry love.

“Shape Of You” was definitely winning Song and Record of the Year if allowed to compete. That I’d go to bat for. Album would be a different story.

I think we have a different definition of beloved. I don’t think only Adele Beyoncé and Michael Jackson are beloved. If that’s our definition, then almost no one is loved by the Grammys, and I don’t think anyone here was arguing for that. I don’t think anyone in their sane mind would believe Harry Styles was at the same level as Michael Jackson or Beyoncé in terms of industry respect, like that’s an insane thing to say.

But I also think comparing Harry to Ed is disingenuous. Perhaps Sam is closer to Harry. I think Sam could easily have a huge Grammy era if they released music like In The Lonely Hour again. And to be fair, potentially so could Ed if he went back to his + era, but I just can’t see that happening, I feel like Sam is always two steps away from their piano ballad times.

There’s also a personality issue. Ed isn’t someone with loads of industry friends. He’s more of a recluse, awkward goofball. He has industry buddies but he never really cozied up to industry veterans to the same level Harry did. He’s always been one to brush more with contemporaries. They’re never gonna elicit the same result because they have different approaches to their careers and images.

No one said that those are the only artists who are “beloved.” They are examples of beloved artists. Harry just isn’t one that level, no matter how you flip.

And Ed Sheeran has plenty of industry friends. Why do we have to rewrite history just to justify a point? It isn’t necessary, and Ed Sheeran wasn’t some industry outcast. Stop the madness. Lol

The strawman is strong with this one.

I never said he was an outcast. He’s a self-proclaimed recluse who hasn’t gone to events or anything of the sort since idk, before releasing Divide. I said he’s more friends with contemporaries than legends, by choice. When you have to decontextualize someone’s words to counter them, and on top of that you don’t even quote them, you’re outright lying.

Harry is far more loved and respected in the industry than Ed Sheeran. Don’t change your mind. Reality will just show it to you. Goodnight.

You literally just made a long ass response not quoting me yourself. Please sit all the way down.

The only reason I don’t quote every post of yours is because 1.) I’m posting from my phone & it’s harder to quote every single post and 2.) you’re longwinded. Furthermore, you have not said one thing that has shown that Harry Styles is this beloved artist, nor have you really made any real true points about Ed Sheeran vs Harry Styles comparison, besides the fact that Ed Sheeran was snubbed due to a fucking biased ass panel (which was exposed by Deborah Dugan) or the fact that he doesn’t hang around legends so he can’t possibly be on the same level as Harry. The only “reality” is that Harry is another white British male with safe retro-sounding music that will soon fall out of love with voters when the next white British male with safe retro-sounding music comes around, just like Ed Sheeran and Sam Smith (before they went full-on gay). In conclusion, your essays defending this basic ass white bread is corny.

Both of y’all doing the most with the least, good Lord. Harry can be “loved” “beloved” “respected” whatever, and still be basic.

MJ is beloved beyond all reason, considering he was a pedophile who spent $200m paying young boys not to testify against him. If a white artist had done that, he wouldn’t even be in the conversation.

Get real!  Harry Styles is NOT loved by the industry nor is he straight.  Pure delusion.

Again, all these talks about vote splitting and industry darling seems so delusional. These winners ARE rigged. If y’all didn’t learn from 2021 atleast do it now. Y’all will still talk about predicting winners and the Grammy’s will pull the same shit next year and the year after and will lose your minds again.

Better bring back 7-8 nominees pool for GF next year.

They can’t drop back to 7-8 nominees, not without a committee.

We’ve seen how many alphabetical order nominees made it into the general field.

In the past, the committee was able to elevate great songs and albums into the final 5 or 8, even if the Grammy voters were too lazy to look further down the list.

Without a committee we just have to accept that some mediocre artists like Justin Bieber will almost get always get nominated, but with 10 songs/albums, hopefully some great artists from further down the order will get in too.

An interesting thing that I already knew, but some people always insist on bringing it up and I hope they stop is saying that if such an artist goes to the ceremony then he will win something live because there is no way they could have gone without knowing that they won something. There have been many, many examples of big-name artists walking out of the awards with nothing. The Grammy is still the biggest award in the music industry, many artists are thirsty for awards, or seek this validation or just want to be present at that moment.

I don’t know Taylor went and she didn’t win anything in the main show. According to this forum she only goes when she knows she’ll win big.

Congratulations 12 Time Grammy Winner Taylor Swift!

Ed would easily have beaten Bruno for everything(AOTY/ROTY/SOTY) if Divide was allowed to compete, IMO. But why do I think that? It’s simple: Divide was  bigger than 24k Magic. If voters didn’t like Ed, he wouldn’t have won SOTY for TOL, so he was at least liked. With the biggest album of the year + the biggest hit, someone liked would easily have swept the GF.

But even if he lost AOTY(24k Magic got the Best Engineered nom, but I’m not sure if that category had a panel or not), he would definitely win ROTY and SOTY over Bruno’s songs. That 24k Magic ROTY was a shameless namecheck, and I doubt Bruno would still have won if his biggest competition wasn’t “Humble”(a rap song) and Despacito(a song in spanish that couldn’t even win Pop Duo). Since we know most of the time the same song wins both awards if it’s up for both, Ed would’ve won both awards.
