Songs/albums/artists that didn’t get nominated, or didn’t win, that you were sure would.

Obviously “Shape of You” being shut out of the general field two years ago was a big shock to me, like it was to many others, as it was considered the heavy favorite to win Record and Song of the Year.

Also, I was surprised that Kesha received no nominations in 2011, not even Best New Artist or Best Female Pop Vocal Performance for “Tik Tok”. She was extremely popular that year. Obviously her image at the time was a little… extreme by Grammy standards, but I thought for sure that having the biggest hit of the year would give her something.

    In recent years:
    Bad Romance, RoTY
Drunk In Love, RoTY at the very least, I don’t understand how it missed
Trouble, SoTY/RoTY (arguably Taylor Swift’s best song, even Adele liked it and asked to work with Max Martin after hearing that specific song)
    Shape Of You, SoTY/RoTY
    Shallow losing SoTY
Beyoncé losing AoTY to Beck, that was the biggest shock

I remember being shocked that untitled. unmastered. wasn’t nominated for AOTY year in 2017. Also, considering Drunk in Love’s success, you would think it would’ve made it into the GF.

    ….

2008 was an exciting year for snubs.

No Alicia Keys in R&B Song, R&B Album or AOTY
No Leona Lewis in New Artist
Little to no love for Mary J. Blige, Usher, Mariah and Chris Brown (not even a nomination in Pop Male for “With You,” but Ne-Yo surprised with a (deserved) nomination for “Closer”)

In hindsight, Beyoncé losing to Beck had its clues when she lost Urban Contemporary and Drunk in Love didnt make the GF.

But I guess My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy not getting into AOTY? It’s one of the most acclaimed albums ever and Kanye was on a roll getting three consecutive AOTY noms for his first three albums. He’s one of the most rewarded so it’s not like the Grammys didn’t like him. All of the Lights got into SOTY so they were obviously aware. He wasn’t beating Adele but it was still strange to see his most critically lauded not nominated.

Especially since his previous album broke his AOTY streak. I remember thinking maybe it was because of the VMA incident but then he ended getting the SOTY nod. They didn’t nominate any hip hop albums that year; instead chose 3 pop albums in addition to Adele. They could have replaced one of them with Kanye.

Why wasn’t it submitted? Is it due to its length?

It was long enough to qualify.

They most likely intentionally chose not to enter it.
