Bad Romance wasn’t even submitted so it’s barely a snub.

Joanne wasn’t bad but it didn’t go as far as it was intended to. Basically A Star Is Born is exactly the type of sound that Joanne aimed for, but fell short.

Back in 2016, I agreed very much with this review: “Even with all her extracurricular endeavors paying off cultural dividends, Gaga’s greatest achievement is yet to come, and Joanne, flaws and all, feels like the necessary step to get there.”

Who would’ve known that two years later, that very prediction became true with ASIB. I think Joanne prepared Gaga for the new sound that made her re-peak again, and that is power ballads.

Bad Romance was indeed submitted for GF. The panel just chose Nothin’ On You (WTF?), Fuck You, Empire State of Mind, Need You Now and Love The Way You Lie over it. It seems weirder and weirder those choices over the years cause Bad Romance was THE Record and Song of 2010

However Gaga’s label really screw her submissions many times:

-Yoü and I went for Pop Solo and GF over TEOG and BTW. Judas went for Dance Recording but due to the rule change that year it was pushed to Pop solo alongside Y&I making this weird lineup

-Marry The Night wasn’t submitted to anything. A robbery considering the great video

-The Monster Ball concert also didn’t enter Music Film. A shame. They must have forgetten the special was nominated for 5 Emmys.

-The ARTPOP submissions are a event of a mess. You should look it. It just doesn’t make any sense. I know it didn’t have many chances for its songs but it deserved Pop Album though over Ariana Grande, Miley Cyrus and even the eventual winner Sam Smith

-Perfect Illusion also wasn’t submitted at anything for no reason. Gaga even attended the ceremony and Pop solo nominees weren’t strong besides Adele. She had a chance it submitted.

    Like a Prayer – Record/Album/Song/Pop Vocal Female

Few crimes by the recording academy are as egregious as that ROTY snub. If the Grammys were as driven by success back then as they are now, she would have swept the big categories that year.

Pretty sure Like a Prayer was shut out because of the controversy. Even Madonna’s Pepsi Commercial was canceled as a result and the Pope encouraged people to boycott her lol.

I doubt the controversy had much to do with it. Madonna was only nominated three times in the ’80s. She had been snubbed several times before “Like a Prayer.” They just didn’t like her.

“Perfect Illusion” was entered for Record and Song of the Year, Best Pop Solo Performance, and Best Music Video. I’m not sure where you heard otherwise but that is inaccurate.

“Perfect Illusion” was most definitely submitted for consideration.

It took a while for Madonna to gain respectability as a musician. She had won a Grammy before ROL, but that album really cemented her artistic status. People forget she won 4 awards in one night!

Looking back on her career, the Grammys definitely should’ve nominated True Blue & Like a Prayer as AOTY. “Vogue” would’ve been a rightful ROTY/SOTY nominee. Also, “Take a Bow” was wrongfully snubbed in Female Pop Vocal Performance. That song was #1 for 7 weeks (her longest run ever) and was produced by Babyface!

My Grammy knowledge doesn’t extend back anywhere nearly this far, but does anyone know if Christina Aguilera’s “Fighter” was entered in Best Female Rock Vocal Performance? It would have been eligible the last year that award was given. If it was entered there, definitely a snub.
