Agreed. It’s a good album, but I feel like people worship it more for how groundbreaking it was (pioneering the “surprise drop,” music videos for every song) than its actual merits. 4 and Lemonade are both better albums.

I guess you’re entitled to your own wrong opinion.

Speaking of.. 4 didn’t get into Urban Contemporary? How? And Chris Brown’s panned album did?

Urban Contemporary Album wasn’t a thing until the next year. That year was when Contemporary R&B Album was merged into R&B Album.

Committee shut Beyoncé out of all R&B categories that year for some reason. Maybe they were tired of her winning all the time. Maybe they really wanted Chris Brown to win a Grammy.

Beyoncé’s best work is Lemonade IMO. Her self titled was a good project but it wasn’t anything special music-wise.

The real loss was Lemonade losing to 25. Adele was gonna win everything anyways, so why not just give Beyoncé the damn award? Even to this day, Lemonade is still charting while 25 already left the 200.

The Grammy’s love to ignore artists during their “flop” eras. 4 was perceived as Beyoncé’s flop era. They did the same with Gaga for ARTPOP and many of other artists that they usually like.

25 has lasted many more weeks on the Billboard 200 (it spent over three years on the charts, so not sure why you said “already”), and Lemonade is back because of Homecoming and it was released to streaming sites. That is not even a fair comparison.

And there was no “urban contemporary” when 4 was released. It was competing for Best R&B Album. Urban Contemporary Album was created a year later.

I still find it colossally messed up that they intentionally snubbed what was probably the biggest R&B release that year, and definitely one of the better ones, to instead recognize a domestic abuser on an apology tour and a known pedophile. And another one of the R&B nominees/winners that year was accused of rape not long after that year’s awards.

    They screwed up big time.

To be precise, 25 spent 173 weeks on BB200, whereas Lemonade spent 80. I Am Sasha Fierce spent a whopping 190 weeks on BB200. Self-titled spent 185 weeks.

So for some reason, Lemonade had shorter longevity.

Every music body tried on the Chris Brown bandwagon that year and the year after… BET, MTV, AMAs, etc. It’s crazy how fast he was able to come back from that.

Lemonade’s longevity was stunted by it not being on streaming services.

Still, 25 had been on the charts since 2015 with only a few weeks outside. Not sure why its longevity vs. Lemonade’s was used against it, especially when it held up well. Plus, 25 will likely be back on it.

IMO, Beyoncé’s last great album was 4. Her albums that have been nominated for AOTY would not have been worthy winners in that category.
