Except Adele has probably made some of the most memorable songs of the ’10s. Just because she makes easy listening doesn’t mean her songs haven’t impacted anyone or are “forgettable.”

Again, that wasn’t my opinion. Just explaining the use of “white”.

Girl please your obsession with Gaga is almost becoming a medical condition. No one even mentioned Gaga.

Well, I did since we were talking “overrated”.  Can I?

Isn’t Christina Aguilera white as well? And used to be successful? Why has she not even been nominated for aoty?

Lots of white people are snubbed even when they are successful,  and that was very common before 2010. It was in 2010 that being successful = AOTY nomination became an unwritten rule.  Adele is still overrewarded by the Grammys because she’s white, but above all, because she’s safe.

“Shake It Off” or “All About That Bass” probably would have had shots at the win had they not been so recent at the time (that’s probably also why “AATB” missed the Pop Solo nomination; Taylor got in with a newer song but Meghan’s name was less familiar).

I don’t believe either of those songs had a shot because of their style(and in Meghan’s case, because she was very much one hit wonder and not “serious” enough), but being too new was another downside, knowing the Grammys. Usually the winners had time to settle down before the nominations.

Megan Trainor is a one hit wonder in hindsight, but back then her second single was just peaking or had just peaked (in the top 5) as voting was closing. Voters couldn’t have known then she would be a one hit wonder or a one era wonder. Also she was singer songwriter who plays multiple instruments so I don’t think she was “not serious enough”. Timing was probably her biggest obstacle. Her album was only released a few weeks before the show.

Don’t be delusional! Race plays a huge part in everything in this fucked up world. Old white dudes were NOT going to vote for Beyoncé over Adele. Just like Taylor Swift won over Kendrick Lamar. Quality and taste my ass!

WW, she was a one hit wonder. They might care (the most) about the US, but they know what’s happening outside(see: Dua Lipa winning BNA). Besides, all her other US hits still happened on the coattails of AATB success. She won BNA the following year because she was the most popular by miles and she had a career as a songwriter before.

She would need a more classy song, like a ballad(Stay With Me, Somebody That I Used to Know), or a song with deep or serious lyrics(Royals) to win without being an industry heavyweight or a respected veteran.

Also she was singer songwriter who plays multiple instruments so I don’t think she was “not serious enough”. Timing was probably her biggest obstacle. Her album was only released a few weeks before the show.

I agree timing was another obstacle, but being a singer songwriter and playing multiple instruments didn’t really make her serious enough, considering her songs were all very generic and lightweight. Not the type of song the Grammys like beyond nominations. And considering she would have to compete with similar songs(in tone) like Fancy and SIO, her winning chances decreased even more.

Meghan had 4 hits when she won Best New Artist.

We were talking about her ROTY/SOTY nominations for AATB.

Anyway, overseas Meghan had no big hits after AATB. She was known as the AATB singer. Even where she had other hits, people didn’t know it was her.

Pharrell won Urban album because voters thought Beyonce would get AOTY. I’m 100% sure she was second that year.
And stop dragging Gaga all the time. You look pathetic and miserable.

Lol. I’m pretty sure most voters DO NOT think like this. There was no way she was winning AOTY when she lost her main field to another AOTY nominee.

I am Sasha Fierce (beyonce) and the fame (lady gaga) lost to fearless (Taylor swift)  in AOTY, That was the biggest surprise.

To keep our minds on the right path, imma make it clear to you. 25 is better than Lemonade. And it does not imply that Adele is better than Beyoncé. This race thing is fucking rigged and those who were oppressed are good actors. What do you want? Let a weaker album by a colored artist win even though we have that greater album by a white one? Then, that’s bullshit. You fought for equality, but not for equity. Just give the fucking award to those who deserved it. Stop this downgrading mentality.

And for that Taylor over Kendrick, that’s a different story.

Honey, Taylor Swift winning over Kendrick Lamar is NOT a different story. A bunch of old white dudes voted for their own race instead of voting for a fucking masterpiece by Kendrick Lamar, which happened to be the best album nominated that year.

“Colored”…no one uses that term anymore, dear.

Bad Romance and No Tears Left To Cry hit the hardest.

Had Ariana submitted NTLTC in RoTY, it would’ve probably gotten in over The Middle.

Honestly, I would take NTLTC over The Middle in either category any day of the week and I don’t even like Ariana’s music.

The Middle was such a shameful nomination.
