The idea came to me after the anonymous voter ballots were revealed. Popguy suggested I make the thread and in light of other people making their “What if?” threads I decided to write this one as well.
To make things easier I relied on the results of Metacritic’s Top 10 lists and the AOTY page. I decided to use the same eligibility period as the Grammys so I replaced some albums with others released late last year that had very high scores. I probably overlooked some albums, sorry about that, reviewing every album has been difficult.

i know it’s a critics award but self esteem wouldn’t get that nomination, maybe even the war on drugs too. dawn fm or harry’s house would instead, maybe even fossora, ants from up there, red tv…yeah.

I made the list according to the highest scores on the Metacritic tops. I too disliked the idea of snubbing Björk, Florence or Denzel Curry but I also saw it unfair to overlook underground acts.

February 10, 2023 at 9:05 am #1205299374Critics Choice should be encouraged to have their music awards to be the first serious precursor for the grammys, because AMAs, VMAs, etc trying to influence is really funny even pathetic considering most of them are fan-voted. They could really influence if they happen during voting at the grammys, having the most influential people voting there, have the same structure: AOTY, ROTY, SOTY and BNA. In the first years, present it alongside the film and tv awards, at the end of the day, the critics choice happens before the grammys.

Just accept the fact that even though the Grammys has it faults, no other voting body matters more than your peers. I wish the AMAs would go back to just industry voters.

Obviously it wouldn’t be a replacement but it would be nice to have a precursor for the Grammys, especially when it could boost lesser known works. The Grammys are WAY too mainstream-focused instead of quality-focused, especially when compared to the Oscars and Emmys
