Why has this song become such an iconic piece in music history? Say what you want about Mariah, but this woman but as if she wasn’t already a legend, her “All I want…” will be a timeless Christmas song. Why has it become such a staple not only in the states but all around the world as the signature Christmas tune. And why haven’t other modern singles shared the same fate? Most songs in the Christmas catalogue are from artists who already passed away, save for Mimi and Jose Feliciano’s: “Feliz Navidad”. What is the formula that made “All I Want ..” a modern day classic! Which holiday songs by the artists of today do you see becoming timeless classics?

December 24, 2020 at 5:02 pm #1203944144Underneath the Tree. Maybe Santa Tell Me. I love CTF and for me it will always be so but I think Underneath the Tree fits timeless Christmas classic the best.

i feel like underneath the tree also achieves this, and following its rise in popularity this year i can see it heading the same way. maybe santa tell me too but i feel as if that track is carried more by the name ariana grande rather than the song itself

Its melody is simple but super catchy. It’s a halfway point between sounding old school and contemporary. It has a dramatic opening then becomes uptempo. It’s not religious but also isn’t “naughty”.
