After what happened with the Weeknd’s shut out / controversy what do you think is this going to mean for the future of artists, Grammys, submissions, etc.?March 20, 2021 at 8:36 pm #1204147820
Nothing. He will submit again.March 20, 2021 at 8:59 pm #1204147834
nothing lmao .. most celebs didn’t even care they just attended the grammys as usual.March 20, 2021 at 9:10 pm #1204147852
I don’t think so. It would definitely affect how artists would submit their work for example.March 20, 2021 at 9:34 pm #1204147858
Yeah nothing. Even if they now take away the committees, if they give awards to the wrong artists, the main source will be the voters.

There have always been controversial choices and controversial snubs. Maybe this one was worse than most. In the long run, almost everyone will still submit or at least their label will.March 20, 2021 at 9:39 pm #1204147862
Honey, sadly nothing will change. 🙁March 20, 2021 at 10:19 pm #1204147901
Honestly it depends on how well his next album is received both commercially and critically. If he releases an album that is on par with the overall success of After Hours, there will be renewed interest and drama surrounding him directly not submitting it. ESPECIALLY when he submits to other award committees and gets nominations/wins. It’ll look bad and lead to articles, think pieces, and other bad press for the Grammy committee. Now whether that will lead to enough pressure to make the committee cave and make any real changes, I guess that depends on how stubborn, prejudiced, and racist the committee wants to remain.
Either way its not something thats just going to “fade away” given the provision that The Weeknd remains one of the top pop artists in American music with the ability to release culturally dominant singlesMarch 20, 2021 at 11:02 pm #1204147931

Nothing.March 21, 2021 at 2:41 am #1204148038
I guess if he had just nominations for ROTY and SOTY, he would have stayed silent on that matter. Angry but silent and went to the Grammys in hopes to win twice in the general field.
If Scooter Braun was his manager and pushed him into the pop field with connections, the Weeknd would have celebrated on social media that nom day was big. #ThankYouGrammysMarch 21, 2021 at 4:16 am #1204148103
If Anthony Mason is true to his word, then maybe some rules changes are coming for 2022. If not, then it will take more high-profile artists like The Weeknd continuing to call out Grammy corruption and shadiness. And then Abel needs to stick to his word and not submit anything from his next album era.March 21, 2021 at 5:22 am #1204148180
That would be Harvey Mason and I wonder what rules changes are coming for 2022. He talked a little about it here:
On the secret committees, “I will say that our ultimate goal is to get to the point where our membership can determine these things… “
Translation, no change for 2022
On ranked choice voting, “I don’t know if it would result in better nominations, but it might result in something different.”
Ranked choice voting would be terrible and it appears that they know that, so it’s good that doesn’t seem to be happening.
I’m not sure what changes to expect here (if anything), perhaps change it so that the top 2-3 most voted songs/albums pass straight through to the final round.
But would that really help The Weeknd?
On The Weeknd missing nominations, “Some of it was [decided by] the [“secret”] nominating committees and some was the voting body, because some of the awards he was eligible for did not have nominating committees, so it was a combination of both.”March 21, 2021 at 5:05 pm #1204149376
Whatever changes they do make, the same people will just complain all over again when another big name gets snubbed. A lot of us have followed the Grammys and we know how these things go.
And this is like the fifth thread about Abel’s snubs.
