History has shown the producers tend to go for the biggest star of the period, a big name legend, or a big name promoting their ineligible new single.

Cardi B? Black Panther medley? Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper? A legend like Paul McCartney? The beginning of a new Rihanna era?

    Past openers:

2008 Alicia Keys with Frank Sinatra

    2009 U2

2010 Lady Gaga with Elton John

    2011 Aretha Franklin Tribute

    2012 Bruce Springsteen

    2013 Taylor Swift

    2014 Beyonce

    2015 AC/DC

    2016 Taylor Swift

    2017 Adele

    2018 Kendrick Lamar

Kendrick already opened up the Grammys with a Black Panther song.

Lady Gaga ad Bradley opening would be ideal, but the word is still out whether or not they will even be there, especially Bradley Cooper.

It would be nice to open up the show again with an Aretha tribute.

Yeah I don’t think they’ve ever gone 2 years in a row with the same opener.

Kendrick and Gaga may not perform at the Grammys if they want to perform at the Oscars, which Gaga at least has indicated she plans to do.

Anyway, the most logical choices to open would be Drake, Cardi B, and Ariana Grande.

Rihanna would be a great choice if she has new music but I don’t know if she will.

Otherwise, I can see Childish Gambino opening with This Is America.

Or maybe Lady Gaga with something other than Shallow (I’ll Never Love Again perhaps).

I don’t see Ariana opening. I think often times they tend to go for one of the big nominees. So I think it’ll probably be Childish Gambino.

Swift opened when she only had 3 nominations. Ariana has a new album on the way, a current #1 single, and she’s one of the biggest stars on the planet. It would be a win-win for both her and the Grammys.

I think the only way she isn’t at least considered is if she’s licking her wounds over the “snub.”

I think Cardi would be a good choice to open the Grammys

I actually don’t think they would go for Ariana. She isn’t big enough to be honest. Just look at the list in the OP. All those names can literally play the Superbowl except for the Aretha Franklin tribute. Unless Cardi B, Drake, Gaga/Cooper, or Kendrick pass, I don’t see it. Perhaps they could pair her with a legend.

I would love for them to open the show with Lady Gaga singing I’ll Never Love Again or Always Remember Us This Way.

Drake probably isn’t even attending so I doubt it’s him.

I think it’ll be Cardi, Maroon 5, or Ariana.

I would love for Cardi to perform a medley of her IOP hits. Please don’t perform Money.

I also would love to see Ariana perform GIAW and/or Thank U, Next, but I rather the former since that has a great choreo. Plus nothing says more “we like women in 2018” than a song praising women.

Maroon 5 would be a great pick as long as they don’t perform GLY-

My vote is for Childish Gambino. “This Is America” would make for a stunning opener.

In 2013 yeah, but Taylor wasn’t eligible for Album Categories anyway. But she did have Record Of The Year nomination. In 2016 when she opened again, she was nominated across the board, which is why I don’t see Ariana opening when she’s only nominated for two pop awards. I definitely think they’ll give her a good performance slot though.

I think they’ll go with Childish Gambino or Gaga (without Bradley).

Or even Kendrick again lol.. They won’t care.

I don’t think they’ll go with Cardi B either. Her newest single “money” is probably not something opening-worthy.

Totally agree. I imagine he’d make the visuals and the theatrics opening-worthy as well
