Why does the Grammys not have ‘best vocalist’ in their top ‘4’?

Having “Best Vocalist” would be like “best guitar solo” or “best drummer”. It doesn’t reward anything but an instrument (and that’s what vocals are).

They probably mean overall vocal performance from all genres like a General Field Vocal Performance for all.

We have album genre-specific field (Pop album, R&B album, Rock album, Alternative album) then => AOTY for GF

We have performance genre-specific field (Pop vocal performance, R&B performance, Rock Performance, etc. but none => for GF
Like something dedicated solely for performance

Maybe a category like “Performance of the Year” for the vocalist and leave the “Record of the Year” only for the producers.
