Geez Boz go easy on her. I actually enjoyed a few songs on Lover and disagree that it’s straight up trash. Obviously the singles are but i think it’s a solid body of work a tad better than Reputation. Mostly a (6/10) for me. Its passable.

Yeah, I agree. I think lover is a good 5-6/10. Wayyy better than the mess of an album that Reputation was in my opinion.

hunger hurts but starving works when it costs too much to love...

I disagree. Outside of Afterglow, Miss Americana, and You and Me (But Mostly Me – Gay Version), that album felt extremely mediocre at best. It was painfully boring at times (Daylight, The Archer), extremely cringeworthy at other times (ME!, The Man, I Forgot that You Existed), or just flat out trash at others (False God). She also tried copying some styles from Carly Rae Jepsen and Lorde and it did not work. I actually enjoy 1989 (8/10 for me), and I think Reputation shines in some places (6/10 album), but Lover just felt like a Candy Crush version of a generic synthpop album. It has shrunk on me significantly, which sucks because I really love Afterglow and Miss Americana (two of my favourite songs of the year). Lover to me is a 3/10 project at best and probably her worst record.

I know you think I am a Taylor stan and I don’t wanna hate but Lover would be an amazing 10-12 track album. Alongside songs you’ve mentioned Cruel Summer is a such a smash, Cornelia Street is songwriting at its finest, Death By A Thousand Cuts has amazing lyrics and Soon You’ll Get Better is one of the most heartbreaking song you’ll find out there. There are a few skips but quite a few hidden gems.

It definitely would be better if it were a 10 track album.

    If it had been:
    1. Afterglow
    2. Miss Americana & The Heartbreak Prince
    3. You Need to Calm Down
    4. I Think He Knows
    5. Death by a Thousand Cuts
    6. Soon You’ll Get Better

And an extra 4 songs, then it probably would’ve been a 5/10.

BTW I forgot about London Boy. That track is easily the worst song of the year.

Lover is an “album” album at 18 tracks when other pop girls can barely maintain the structure of a 10-ish track record, that alone deserves some credit

There is no point in having 18 tracks, if many of those tracks are filler or just plain bad (unless you only care about streaming points so you can have a big opening week and chart higher on the BB200). Listening to that album was a chore and it didn’t need to be. Taylor could have spent the time crafting an excellent 10-12 track album, but didn’t.

Not hating Taylor here, I’d say the same for Drake and others. However there were enough good tracks on Lover to say it doesn’t belong in the worst category.

When I read this thread title, the first album I thought of was this one.

Perhaps it should have been that Chainsmokers album.

I hope it’s irony just like my post.

I forgot about Revival by Eminem. There’s no words to express how bad that album was.
