ALBUM OF THE YEAR – 1985
Can’t Slow Down – Lionel Richie – WINNER
She’s So Unusual – Cyndi Lauper
Purple Rain – Prince & The Revolution
Born in the U.S.A. – Bruce Springsteen
Private Dancer – Tina TurnerI can see how Lionel Richie won, but my pick would have been either Tina Turner for the sweep of the big categories or Prince.
Same reason Bruno Mars won in 2018, most commercial successful and safest pick amongst older voters.

Wow this must be the first time the majority not nominee was black

Macklemore over Kendrick Lamar is obvious bullshit.
Steely Dan over Radiohead and Eminem is a crime.
Taylor over Kendrick is just a popularity stuff.
Mumford and Sons and fun. over Frank Ocean is also a crime.
Celine Dion over Beck in 1997.
Adele over Beyonce in 2017.
Golden Hour over Dirty Computer. I don’t care about y’all but Golden Hour is such an overhyped and overrated album. Justice for Janelle.
Bruno over everybody in 2018. I was okay with Jay, Lorde, Gambino and rooting for Kendrick.

Honey, in 2005, 4/5 of the AOTY nominees were black (Ray Charles, Alicia Keys, Usher, Kanye West).

ReplyCopy URLApril 17, 2020 at 9:02 am #1203432068- Dirty Computer missing a Best Urban Contemporary Album nomination in order to give EVERYTHING IS LOVE a Grammy
- Only waiting until 2017 to change the Rap/Sung Collab category to Rap/Sung Performance, after the prime of M.I.A., Nicki Minaj, Lil Wayne and Kanye West’s careers
- Thinking Out Loud winning SOTY over Alright was an even worse decision than 1989 winning AOTY over To Pimp A Butterfly
- Humble missing a SOTY
- thank u, next missing SOTY
- This is America winning SOTY
- Not doing a major Academy overhaul to expell 80-year-old voters from Wyoming who can’t tell ROTY and SOTY apart after 62 years
- NOT HAVING CREATED A POP COMMITTEE AFTER 62 YEARS
- My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy & Body Talk not receiving AOTY, ROTY and SOTY nominations in 2011-12.
the best decision:
- denying Pop girl access to the Dance field. even though Robyn sadly couldn’t take advantage from that category fraud.
April 17, 2020 at 9:09 am #1203432084Where do I start?
Gaga not winning AOTY for either The Fame or The Fame Monster
Beyoncé not winning AOTY for either self-titled or Lemonade.
Kendrick not winning for Damn (it was the album that got him both commercial success and critical acclaim, he should’ve won that year)
Bad Guy winning SOTY.
This Is America winning SOTY over ShallowBest decisions:

It’s also nowhere near “Waterfalls”, “Gangsta’s Paradise” and “You Oughta Know”. Face it, dude, those three songs are much better than what won.

I don’t need to “face” anything. “Kiss from a Rose” deserves its awards and has held up just as well as those other songs. There are “worse Grammy decisions” than KFAR winning ROTY/SOTY, which again, it deserved. And that’s not to take anything away from those records because they would have been deserving as well.

Okay, then how about some random Dave Matthews Band track winning Best Rock Duo/group instead of the Smashing Pumpkins’ “1979” or Oasis’ “Wonderwall”?
