britney is NOT remembered for her meltdown, what the hell are you talking about? she’s remembered for her iconic hits including BOMT, toxic, oops, slave 4u… the list goes on

xtina is also very remembered for her hits, she has plenty, but the truth is that she is simply not as iconic and well-known as britney spears

Britney did not deserve to win BNA over Xtina and I’m saying this as someone who actually prefers her discography overall

Whitney remains the biggest BNA snub of all time though Sade thankfully won instead

Best Supporting Actor - Colman Domingo, Glynn Turman

SAG Ensemble - Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom
    Best Cinematography - Nomadland

    Whitney Houston hands down.

Christina Aguilera deserved to win Best New Artist. Runner up was probably Macy Gray. Speaking of the 2000 awards, I was surprised that Eminem did not get nominated for Best New Artist in 2000.

I will reach back further and add that I was shocked that Debbie Gibson and Tiffany were not nominated for Best New Artist in 1988.

1989 Best New Artist snubs included Keith Sweat and Al B. Sure
1991 En Vogue should have been nominated.
1993 TLC should have been nominated and maybe Mary J. Blige

Lana Del Rey not even being nominated.

Born to Die was such a big era but was sorta panned by critics . She definitely deserved a nomination. I think that SNL performance added more negative attention towards her too.

I would’ve preferred Sade to win over Whitney tbh

Get real!  Lana Del Rey did NOT deserve a Best New Artist nomination.  Her debut era was awful.  Plus, girlfriend is a horrible performer.  YUCK!

Britney was a part of my childhood, but I don’t see why people are surprised she lost to Xtina. Considering that the award is for “Best New Artist” and not “Best Album/Song by a New Artist,” it makes perfect sense Xtina was the favorite going in with her powerhouse vocals.

Like, this is the same Academy that 11 years later gave the award to Esperanza Spalding over Justin Bieber and Drake (and I’m not saying it was underserved, but it shows that they’re more swayed by the artistry than the popularity/mainstream success).

Anywho, from my personal faves, the first one that comes to mind is Lily Allen. I’m still salty that she’s only ever received ONE measly Grammy nod…

Oh, and if it counts, 1990 feels like a big snub to everyone who was nominated. I get taking away the award from Milli Vanilli, but couldn’t they have just given it to #2 (who I assume were either Neneh Cherry or the Indigo Girls)?

Honey, Soul II Soul were probably runner-up in 1990.  I still do NOT get why they didn’t give Best New Artist to the act that came in 2nd place.

1990 Best New Artist votes were probably:
    1) Milli Vanilli
    2) Soul II Soul
    3) Neneh Cherry
    4) Indigo Girls
    5) Tone Loc

I prefer Sade to Whitney too but Nippy would have won that award in a landslide if nominated
