Without a doubt Blanchett wins. I am fully against Emma Thompson (Saving Mr. Banks) being snubbed but I don’t know who I would drop in order to give her the nomination.
My rankings are:

1) Cate Blanchett – WOW!! Need I say more?
2) Sandra Bullock – proved to us that she has talent, though she is still doubted 🙁
3) Amy Adams – awesome in the role, not as much of a lead as the other nominees though
4) Meryl Streep – great character, between Streep, Roberts and Martidale they made the film watchable
5) Judi Dench – great performance, quite a natural performanceApril 17, 2014 at 7:25 pm #5475711. Blanchett – a performance with the white hot intensity of a thousand burning suns.
2. Streep – an exceptional performance that many enjoy criticizing because of the woman giving it.
3. Adams – her performance makes American Hustle worth watching
4. Bullock – great anchor for the film but you would be hard pressed to find an actress that couldn’t do an equally sufficient job with this role
5. Dench – Frears could have pointed the camera at Dench while she was sleeping and it would’ve been the same performance as the one that Dench ended up giving.

2.Dench.She adds such depth to the character. An endearing and moving performance.
3.Adams.The best thing in American Hustle, but yeah she wasn’t as much a lead as other four.
4.Bullock.It was nice, but the story and directing out-performed her.She was adequate enough.
5.Streep.Pretty much the worst performance I’ve ever seen from her.Uneven and fake from the first second to the last.

Choosing Blanchett over Dench was a matter of having slected Dench before as my top choice, but never selecting Blanchett. Couldn’t possibly find any other reason to choose between these 2 perfect performances.
1. Cate Blanchett, BLUE JASMINE

2. Judi Dench, PHILOMENA
3. Amy Adams, AMERICAN HUSTLE
4. Meryl Streep, AUGUST: OSAGE COUNTY
5. Sandra Bullock, GRAVITYApril 19, 2014 at 10:01 am #547575This is more for who gets second, third etc.
Maybe that would be a better poll…?
Blanchett
Streep (that’s right)
Dench
Bullock
AdamsI place her marginally ahead of Dench but not by a lot. She’s amazing.
I wouldnt have even entertained Bullock as a nominee. She’s serviceable at best,
Brie Larson anyone?ReplyCopy URLDo Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?
Philip K Dick Blade RunnerApril 19, 2014 at 10:30 am #547576I feel Blanchett is a little overrated: She’s great, but its not a mindblowing perfoformance. She’s great and is a deserving winner, but I wouldn’t rank her as one of the greatest. Adams would have made a god winner. I like Streep quite a bit, but she borders on cariacture at times. Dench is good, but its uneven and hard to appreciate for me. Bullock has her moments, but like Dench, its still uneven and hard to appreciate because of the script.
don’t mind Thompson’s snub too much, but she was quite good, even though the movie had its problems.
