I often see Mills listed among the worst winners of the category. If that’s the case, who was a worthy alternative?

I think Mills was good, Marley wasn’t bad either albeit in a horrible film…my top choice could really be any of the top 3 on any given day.  I’ll go with Hackman today.

    1. Gene Hackman, I NEVER SANG FOR MY FATHER
    2. Richard Castellano, LOVERS AND OTHER STRANGERS
    3. Dan George, LITTLE BIG MAN
    4. John Mills, RYAN’S DAUGHTER
    5. John Marley, LOVE STORY

    Should be Hackman’s first oscar.

John Marley..one of the all time worst nominations
John Mills- one of the all time worst wins
Richard Castellano- a fun if monotonous performance
Dan George- this is Hoffman’s film..how he got nominated I cant figure?

Hackman deserves an Oscar every time he is up for one. The man is a national treasure and its a shame not many people have seen I Never Sang for My Father.
