    5. Foster

He was terrible and he has played this role a million times before. What a waste of space here.

    4. Ali

He did absolutely nothing. It’s not a bad performance, but there are superior performances on this list.

    3. Shannon

I prefer ATJ. It’s a very typical role for Shannon. Not a bad turn, though.

    2. Bridges

A good, but hardly groundbreaking performance. I support his nomination, though.

    1. Hedges

Easily the best. On this list and the Oscar-lineup as well. Overall the second best supporting male performance of the year after Elle’s Laurent Lafitte. People underestimate younger actors, but there was more range in Hedge’s performance than in the other four nominees’ performances combined.

I still think Ali’s win and sweep of the critics awards is very baffling. It’s not that it was a bad performance but there just wasn’t anything there that made me go, wow…let’s give him an Oscar. It’s even more apparent when Ashton Sanders comes along in the film and does a magnificent job.

I think Lucas Hedges should’ve taken this. Most people talked about Affleck and Williams’ performances and understandly so, but I felt he was of equal quality to them. Such a good performance and another example of the Academy not acknowledging the performance of a younger male.
