I noticed in the Gold Derby Grammy forums that most of the artists that are being predicted as nominees for Album of the Year are either male or bands mostly comprised of males (Mumford & Sons, The Black Keys, Drake, Frank Ocean, Justin Bieber, Maroon 5, Lionel Richie, etc.).
However, it is worth noting that it is very rare for the Album of the Year category to completely shut out women from the AOTY lineup (either as soloists, as singers for a group, or as part of a various artist soundtrack).
It has only happened 7 times in the Grammys’ 55 year history, and only twice in the last 35 years (1983, 2001).
This got me thinking that there is a very good chance that a female artist will be nominated for Album of the Year, either as a soloist, as a vocalist for a group, or as an individual on a various artist compilation.
Because of the large amount of contenders, I will divide this poll into 2 categories:
1) female soloists
2) females in groups
After a week or so, I will combine the top vote-getters from the soloists and the group polls (and potential popular write-in ballots) into one poll.
Which female-led group, or various artist compilation with female contributions do you think is most likely to get nominated for Album of the Year?
