I love the casts of Malkovich and Cider and Green Mile has a good cast too but American Beauty has such a strong ensemble one of the best ever. I have not seen Magnolia

Probably Beauty,  even though Malkovich is great too  Would have liked to see Election here though.  Magnolia is good from what I remember,  but a little bit too bizzare for me.

Really really tough one between American Beauty and Magnolia.

The beauty about Magnolia is that it makes you feel like every character is constantly interacting with each other with a great fluidity when many of them never actually do meet.

American Beauty I love so much, each individual performance is amazing and they complement each other throughout. So maybe this one wins it for me…

I’m not especially fond of Magnolia (and I’m a huge PT Anderson fan). And I don’t care about most performances in the film (with Philip Seymour Hoffman delivering my favorite performance in the film).

Of the five films, American Beauty and Being John Malkovich are worthy of the award but my favorite ensemble that year wasn’t even nominated. THE INSIDER should have been nominated. It didn’t have a large ensemble, but the three men at its center (Crowe, Pacino and Plummer) were brilliant.
