I’m taking a break from the Golden Globes for a little bit and switching focus to the ensembles of SAG.
For me, it is between 12 Years a Slave and August: Osage County. Both were strong ensembles. Dallas Buyers Club has a nice ensemble and same with The Butler and I like specific people from American Hustle. I’ll go with 12 Years a Slave because it has such a strong ensemble ranging from Chiwetel Ejiofor to Paul Giamatti’s small but memorable cameo. But I would have prefered the casts of Nebraska and Prisoners in this group as well with Nebraska winningSeptember 21, 2014 at 6:42 pm #549717
I would’ve gone with 12 Years because it was a much better film, but American Hustle was much more of an actor’s movie so I went with that. August: Osage County may also be an actor’s movie with brilliant performances, but other than that, it was almost unbearable to watch because it was so trite. The Butler just had a large ensemble of actors, ranging from lead roles to 20-second cameos from famous people. and Dallas Buyers Club only had a few great performances from the three leads.September 21, 2014 at 9:36 pm #549718
Out of these 5, August: Osage County. However if Blue Jasmine was nominated i would choose that.September 21, 2014 at 9:54 pm #549719
The strongest acting ensemble of the year was easily Blue Jasmine, but since it failed to get nominated I would have to say 12 Years a Slave.September 21, 2014 at 10:19 pm #549720

Completely agree that Blue Jasmine was the strongest of the year.

The 12 Years a Slave cast really lived up to all the hype. It’s unfortunate that they didn’t win. Imo, only Prisoners and The Wolf of Wall Street come close.September 21, 2014 at 11:52 pm #549722
Yeah I did like the cast of Blue Jasmine now that I think about it.
My list would be:
12 Years a Slave
Dallas Buyers Club
This is the End
Saving Mr. Banks
The Wolf of Wall Street
August: Osage County
Inside Llewyn Davis
The Way Way Back
Catching FireSeptember 22, 2014 at 6:42 am #549723

The only movies I could truly stand:
1. 12 Years a Slave
2. Dallas Buyers Club
Only because of a great performance (albeit poorly written) by Forest Whitaker:
3. The Butler
A Movie That I Hated Tremendously (I walked out twice) But Thought Bradley Cooper Did a Good Enough Job in what I saw of him:
4. American Hustle
A Movie That I Started to Watch But Turned Off the Moment I Saw Meryl Streep over-acting:
5. August: Osage CountyOctober 17, 2014 at 8:21 am #549726
