I could not have asked for a better Top 3. I cannot think of three contestants that are this evenly matched in terms of sheer talent. I mean any one of them could viably win this if they play their cards right.
As a bit of an Idol historian, if history is any guide, there does seem to be a pattern emerging from previous years. The straight, white, male, good-looking, guitar-playing singer has won more times than any other archetype (David Cook, Kris Allen, Lee DeWyze, Scotty McCreery, Phillip Phillips, Nick Fradiani, Trent Harmon). So this bodes incredibly well for Laine Hardy. Again, if was a betting man, I would double-down on Laine, but I think that if he truly knocks it out of the park, then I think Alejandro has a very real chance of usurping the win. It really just depends on a number of factors, including the Idol coronation songs and their overall song choices and performances. If he does win, Alejandro will make history as the first Hispanic Idol winner.
Though another similar archetype has emerged recently, the “underdog” has won the previous three years (Nick Fradiani, Trent Harmon, Maddie Poppe). Now, I am not saying that Madison is a real “underdog” because she has a strong enough chance on her own of winning as the other two, but I do call her the weakest of all the contestants in terms of fan support. Every time I am on social media, I see people talk mostly about Laine and Alejandro but seldom about Madison. Not saying that she’s bad, it’s just that I think Laine and Alejandro’s fanbases are bigger than hers. Though I suppose if the stars aligned and Laine and Alejandro really crapped the bed, then she could win.
Ultimately, while I think there is a viable chance for any of the three to win, I think I will have to play it safe with my finale predictions. If the voting public was daring enough, the “safe” choice could falter, but this year, I think there is one contestant who I believe will best the two.
1st: Laine Hardy
2nd: Alejandro Aranda
3rd: Madison Vandenburg

Thanks vinny for clarifying, and congrats to both you and Tyler on your perfect scores last week! It’s kind of amazing that Jordin Sparks has been able to hold on to that record title for all these years. Congrats to her! It could very well go down on Sunday the way you have it outlined in your predix. I’m still placing my bets on Madison as I love rooting for the underdog. No guts, no glory, right?!May 18, 2019 at 7:31 am #1202898522

Youngest winner: Jordin (at age 17)
2nd youngest: Scotty AND Laine would tie him if he were to win.May 19, 2019 at 9:03 am #1202899651
There have been 16 seasons of AI. Twenty-five percent of the winners were black. I think that’s pretty good considering that only 12% of Americans are black.May 19, 2019 at 9:28 am #1202899690

Ah yes, Scotty McCreery. I had forgotten how close he came to being the youngest winner (that goes for Lauren Alaina too, had she won that same year).May 19, 2019 at 8:43 pm #1202900409
I got it exactly right and I doubled down on it.
This is the first season since Season 13 where I got the winner exactly right (Season 14 I guessed Clark, Season 15 I guessed La’Porsha, Season 16 I guessed Gabby). Absolute nailbiter, but I am happy with the results and I hope next year will be great too.
Seeing as how I have heard that they will changing stuff up for Season 18 including bringing the show back to the O.G. January debut date, I hope it marks a return to form of the format of the show. Getting one of the O.G. judges (Randy or Paula) would be a plus for me!
Thanks y’all and see you next year!

Laine was easily my fav in the first and third round of individual performances and I am glad he won since he is special. Something about him screams star. Maddison is increible as well…..not sure if she will be a big thing though. ALejandro can make sooooooo much money as a song writer if he wanted to if he doesn’t end up a huge star. BUT the performance of the night easily for me was Kool and the Gang with uche and the ladies.
