I am glad that they are including the talent show as the first main challenge because we get to see a glimpse of the queen. We hear a lot from queens that are eliminated early that they did not get to show who they are.

I agree with the judges that Keri would have been stronger if she got into the jump rope routine much sooner than she did, but it was impressive when she did it. That was not an easy thing to do. I thought Willow Pill was going to win based on RuPaul’s feedback, but I think the runway held her back a little bit.

Here we go! Vivid second group of queens, with standouts being Jorgeous, Jasmine Kennedie, and particularly Angeria, who’s a clear star in the making. Already cleared $7,500 in the first episode! Do that shit, bitch! The variety was a marked step down from last week’s episode, mainly b/c so many relied on lip-syncing to varying degrees of success. I wanted more from Daya Betty than that Pink number, and just for the Crystal Methyd connection, expectations were naturally higher than they would have been for others. I would have picked Jasmine Kennedie to win the maxi challenge, but maybe it was too similar to Jorgeous. Angeria going last helped her a good bit too in terms of impressions, but again, a lively lip-sync to a serviceable original number. The tic-tac mini-challenge, fab! Ru was doing the most, and I lived! Nothing’s gonna stop you from getting your seventh Emmy win for host, so relax a bit lol. Runways were great. Angeria’s look was superb. Pageant queens routinely make me yawn, but at least there’s some personality and refinement with this southern gem. And frankly, we need someone to give ringer Kornbread a run for her money this season. Otherwise, it’s gonna be a Bianca-style blowout, which I don’t really want. As for Maddie, hmmmm. A heterosexual drag queen is so thoroughly foreign and bizarre to me that I don’t have a proper frame of reference to base it upon. I can see a clear respect to the artform, but as Daya Betty pointed out, there’s a lot that Maddie needs to show moving forward. Besides an ICONIC runway that kept her safe this week, she gave us a basic entrance look, basic talent show performance, and middling personality. But let’s see if Maddie goes the distance and how the other group reacts to her news next episode. Alicia Keys was a fine guest judge, but Lizzo was funnier and more memorable. Lip-sync was fine, but “Fallin'”? Nope. Daya Betty never had a legitimate shot at winning with this song over Deja Skye. Ru looked fantastic, BTW. There’s a spark with Ru so far this season for some reason. I hope it continues. Ready for the merge!

Episode Title: “A Pair of Balls”

Synopsis: The remaining queens put their design skills to the test in a double ball challenge, stomping the runway in 42 fashion looks; Christine Chiu (“Bling Empire”) serves as guest judge; another contestant is eliminated from the competition.

42 looks was way too much to absorb, and it would have been better to have this challenge later in the season. Mixed on bringing back Orion Story and Daya Betty. Perfectly likable queens, but why? Makes the past two episodes seem meaningless and inconsequential. Orion Story did deliver in all three looks. Similar in tone and execution, but is that not the point? You could say the same thing for Jorgeous, Kornbread, Willow, Jasmine, and others. Daya Betty’s aesthetic is too similar to Crystal Methyd. Very “been there, done that.” Her shining moment and highlights reel will include eating a dead dragonfly in the sew room. Nice win for Willow, and even nicer to see the budding friendship form between Willow and Kornbread. Hope that continues. Too many looks to pick favorites, but I would say that Jasmine Kennedie should have been higher than safe. She might have had the best constructed look of the episode, if I’m remembering correctly. Deserved bottom 2, but Orion Story should have been safe. June Jambalaya was a mess in all of her three looks, TBH, and I didn’t like the haughty tone she took with Orion returning. They should have had a rematch between the two of them so Orion could have had his rudemption moment. But Maddy was too basic for that to happen lol. Her peak was probably the Marie Antionette head look, which is an all-timer (too bad about the flats, which I didn’t realize until Monét pointed it out on “Pitstop”). I can already see the queens othering Maddy and making him the outsider, like Aiden Zhane, Elliott with 2Ts, Utica Queen, etc. He can’t go home quite yet, b/c his cishet storyline hasn’t been milked to its fullest potential by the shady producers. June deserved her exit for her tacky runway looks, poor attitude, and throwing everything on the runway during the lip-sync. I don’t know how she’ll live down losing a Kylie Minogue song to a straight white guy lmao. I guess you could say that the song choice favored Maddy in the same ways that Lizzo favored June and Alicia Keys favored Deja Skye. The confessionals were pretty tough this episode, particularly from Kornbread, Orion Story, and Willow. Had no idea who the guest judge was, who had barely no presence in the judges’ critiques. Glad to see the teams merge and looking forward to a great season!

I agree with pretty much all your critiques. I am liking this group of queens more than the last several seasons. I can see some actual stars from the get go, not just some who may can be starlike by the end.

June needed to go home. She seemed the least ready for the big time of them all. I remember in her first episode that one of the queens said how June loves her labels. But, I think she goes for labels over fit and she was using the WalMart shopper method of “If I can put it on, then it fits”, which, no. Her looks were a mess and that lip sync was a no. She has the makings of a RPDR level queen, but not yet.

Orion Story also has issues. I thought that she’d be in the bottom 2 along with June, but made cishet white boy was a better story. I didn’t think Maddy was bad, but she was boring. In drag, boring is a horrible thing to be. Deja didn’t wow me either. She also kind of bored me and had the same sort of look on her face for all 3 outfits. Finally, this isn’t just on Deja, but many queens on Drag Race brag about how they are great at the lip sync. Honey, it’s not all-stars. If you are lip syncing, it’s because you were in the bottom that episode. I don’t think I’d be bragging about that.

To me, the top 3 are Kornbread, Angeria, and Jasmine. Kornbread has the personality and talent to back it up as well as having solid looks. Angeria and Jasmine both have amazing looks. Both showed personality in their talent show and waiting for their acting/comedy challenges.

The next tier is close to them. Willow Pill, Kerri Colby, and Jorgeous are in that group and can easily move up.

But overall, a much better season.

Nice episode last week after the two underwhelming premiere episodes. Glad to have Orion and Daya back.

Loving Willow Pill right now. And Angeria is just…she’s perfect. Easy top 2 prediction as of now, but Willow also looks like she can fuck up sooner or later, so…

Bottom two was more than deserved with Kornbread right there on the edge, man. I had high hopes, but her runway look in episode 1 was meh and now this? Plus the expressions and eyes are very “is this all she does?” I hope she does better, ’cause it’s already tiresome.

Lipsync was a mess, June very much deserved to go.

Worst offender during the episode though? The person who chose I Love It instead of Real Groove for the lipsync.
