Do you think she is really going to send people home ? or is it going to be like ” all the losers are in the bottom and thus up for elimination ”

I’m leaning toward no one goes home. That’s happened a few times on the season premieres. Obviously six queens can’t be eliminated on the first episode. It might be held against them in some way down the line if they’re really bad, or the absolute worst lip sync goes home. Everyone could be safe for all we know too.

Synopsis: In an epic twist, RuPaul makes all 13 contestants lip sync for their lives as soon as they enter the competition. Some will stay, while some will sashay away.

This was ridiculous and far more appropriate for a mid season twist or something. 6 lipsyncs in a row? Why? And lackluster lipsyncs on top of that?
This is the type of thing I don’t get. How can somebody who must know perfectly well what happened at last season’s premiere approve this new idea? And for a premiere!
From I’m that Bitch to Kandy Muse and Joey Jay pretending they just “killed” a lipsync?
From Widow and Gigi’s Starships to this? From Jaida to this? They do realize that even motherfucking Sherry Pie did a better lipsync than most of these girls, right?
I know it’s early and in the future we’re gonna rewatch this over and over again, but yeah, worst premiere ever.
I also like trying out new things, but regular intros and yet another Drag on a Dime or Gone with the Window challenge never sounded so good after this mess.
ReplyCopy URLJanuary 2, 2021 at 8:53 am #1203957833Loved it! This was the jolt of energy that the flagship show desperately needed. The lip-syncs right off the bat were surprising and fun to watch. They were mostly strong starts. I’m glad all the songs prepared were different. I didn’t like how arbitrary some of Ru’s winners decisions were, but I’ll get to that. The “All-Stars” twist of voting off someone next episode is hella shady! Like, they’ve done NOTHING in the competition so far but lip-sync? At least let them get a maxi-challenge under their belts, or like one queen said, unback her bags first! I’m expecting some tasteless shenanigans in the voting, and yes, if they vote off the sole black queen in the “bottom group,” I’m not here for that bullshit. There’s a clear, clear weakest link here, but they didn’t get to see each other’s performances, soooo, yeah. I stan the show still recognizing Pork Chop after all this time lol. There’s hope for the first eliminated queen! Vanjie and Shangela more than prove the case for not allowing an early elimination to define your story to the fandom.
Kandy Ho vs. Joey Jay: “Call Me Maybe”
WINNER: Kandy Ho
Kandy Ho’s loud personality and fun radio prop helped her out a good deal. Not the best song to lip-sync to, but she made the most of it, I guess. I thought that Joey Jay was a no-wig rock queen from the promo video? Filler queen, absolutely. I’d eliminate her first and not think twice about it.Denali vs. LaLa Ri: “When I Grow Up”
WINNER: Denali
This was an easy win for Denail. LaLa Ri wasn’t impressive at all to me, and her makeup was a hot mess. Denali managed a cartwheel and flips while wearing ICE SKATES! Certainly not an outfit to lip-sync to, but she delivered well under the circumstances. She should have won the match-up.Tamisha Iman vs. Simone: “The Pleasure Principle”
WINNER: Draw
I would have been fine with either winning, TBH. Tamisha’s outfit stifled some of her dancing, and I’m guessing her cancer recovery also plays a role in what she can and can’t do on stage. I think she captured Janet’s essence the best. Simone has charisma to spare, but I wasn’t a fan of the polaroid dress. I’ve seen that novelty done on “Project Runway” and in many other places, so the effect stalled for me. Simone’s going far in the competition regardless, and she doesn’t need the Gigi Goode connection to prop her up either.Gottmik vs. Utica Queen: “Rumors”
WINNER: Gottmik
“Rumors”? Ugh. There are billions of songs in the world, and this is what’s chosen? Gottmik claimed that she isn’t a great lip-syncer, but I think she squarely won this battle. Utica Queen might be too quirky for her own good, but I’m generally interested in seeing what she can do in the coming weeks. She could have a Crystal Methyd evolution with the right encouragement (re: Michelle’s badgering).Rosé vs. Olivia Lux: “Ex’s & Oh’s”
WINNER: Rosé
Not sure why Olivia Lux won the battle, unless it was a way to upend the narrative of the seasoned queen always winning lip-syncs against the new queen. Rosé has a polish and spark to her that’s compelling, but I’m sure the fanbase will hold it against her that she’s a part of Jan’s family and girl group. Whatever.Tina Burner vs. Kahmora Hall vs. Elliott with 2 Ts: “Lady Marmalade”
WINNER: Tina Burner
Tina Burner sailed to an easy victory with little competition. I was far more interested in the testy shadiness between NY queens/adversaries Rosé & Tina Burner. Maybe they’ll be pitted against each other the way Aquaria & Miz Cracker was in S10, but that amounted to nothing in the end. The only impressive thing about Kahmora Hall was the Bob Mackie dress she somehow could afford, and I guess being Jaida’s drag daughter. Elliott was outclassed at every turn. I’d be fine with him leaving too, if the vote doesn’t pan out for Joey Jay.Worried for Tamisha Iman’s elimination next week, but I’ll hold hope that either Joey Jay or Elliott with 2 Ts goes home first instead and gets a photo placed on the Porkchop Loading Dock lmao. That’s all that either of them deserve.

ReplyCopy URLJanuary 3, 2021 at 5:55 pm #1203960506Atypical, I’m glad you loved the twist and presentation but I didn’t. I agree with your lip sync assessments though. I don’t get some of the winners. Plus the way they presented the twist was very disjointed and confusing. I think I get what they were going for but I don’t think they were entirely successful in it. I do disagree that Call Me Maybe isn’t a good lip sync song, I think the tons of self made videos of it proved that wrong. They were also wrong that Fancy wasn’t a good lip sync song. But I missed the challenges and I missed getting to know more about the queens. So far, all I know is Tina Burner annoys me.
ReplyCopy URLJanuary 5, 2021 at 11:55 am #1203964231I generally like twists, but 6 lip syncs was simply too many. I got so bored watching the various pairs react to the “shocking” news. The producers could have done 4 lip syncs and gotten the same impact they wanted.
ReplyCopy URLJanuary 8, 2021 at 9:03 am #1203969504I agree with Atypuical and agree with all the assesments
LaLa ri has to be one of the worst antrance looks every
TBH this season had some of the worst entrances ever … Joey, Lala , oliva, Rose, Eliott , Tanisha … all very boring in looks
