It was obviously time for Shavi to go home, so no problems there. Sergio’s story was better than his design, but I would have played up the cotton farm element for the fabric choices to at least defend that aspect of the look. Delvin needed this bottom placement as a jolt out of his complacency, I think, but judging by the previews for next week, it probably didn’t. Sadly, I didn’t like any of the top looks this week. The “safe” looks of Brittany and, shockingly, Marquis, would have been my top two with maybeeee Dayoung. Victoria’s look was too bizarre for my tastes, and she benefited from the poorer showing of some of the others to place in top three. She’s going all the way to the finale unless the judges abruptly turn on her for too similar looks, and even in that event, she would so clearly be Christian’s save for the season. That’s hypocritical BS really. Don’t praise someone repeatedly for a strong aesthetic and then knock them b/c you’re suddenly bored by that same aesthetic! Chelsey’s look was fine, but I don’t think an elevated varsity jacket is high fashion at all, and in terms of the flash sale, I wonder if the branding will be changed or personalized? Like why would a bored housewife from Milwaukee buy an oversized jacket with “ELLA” in capital letters stitched on the back of it and “18” on the front? Dayoung’s look at least had a timeless look to it, though I wished the teals matched, or that she would have picked a bold Asian print instead. Interesting heritage challenge regardless, even if most didn’t step up to the plate. This should have been a two-day challenge in hindsight.January 18, 2020 at 5:43 pm #1203291319
I was pretty surprised that Victoria and Dayoung made the top three this week, though I generally liked both looks. I was glad to see Dayoung finally hitting something approaching her stride, but the look, particularly the bottom of it, could have been much more exciting. I agree, though, that I would have included Brittany and Marquise in the top. I was shocked how much I liked Marquise’s look, as I’d written him off. Chelsey’s look felt right away like it would be the winner, because it addressed the challenge well and was a polished take on a familiar garment. It’s a weird item for a flash sale, but this felt like a weird challenge for a flash sale.
It wouldn’t have surprised me to see any of the bottom three be eliminated, but I do think Shavi was the right choice. Both he and Delvin chose bad fabrics and then executed poorly, but Delvin at least had a more promising concept that might have been better/more interesting with more time. Even if Shavi had executed his garment perfectly, it wouldn’t have been very good. Sergio has my sympathy, and I appreciate what he was trying to do with his dress, but it was pretty dull, and the statement was too subtle to really register without being explained.
I’m starting to wonder if the show should tweak the way it selects the top and bottom designers. If they’re just adding up scores and going by point totals, it could push a design that’s interesting or controversial that one judge either loves or hates into the middle. There should be some consideration for whether a judge has given someone a standout score, either high or low, and talking to that person as well. I would think that, at very least, that contestant deserves the feedback.January 18, 2020 at 10:00 pm #1203291576
I kinda hated the results this week. I thought Marquise, Nancy and the blonde girl did a better job than Dayoung and maybe Chelsey. And it’s stupid to being Victoria to the top only to shit on her for not doing the challenge right. So, is it really in the top? No.
Shavi was the right person to send home. Delvin could’ve gone home too. He’s a mess.January 21, 2020 at 7:34 am #1203296309
Dr fashion is so arrogant and needed to be shocked a bit , him and Sergio are really just miserable to watch even if they are good . i cant stand arrogant people.

Sergio annoys me to no end, especially after he somewhat forcibly coached Tyler to make a look that got him eliminated, but I find Delvin fun to watch. He’s been overly confident in the past, but he’s way less arrogant than Sergio. He knew his terrible garment was terrible, where Sergio has made several terrible garments and seems baffled and offended when the judges critique them.January 21, 2020 at 10:37 am #1203296662
Finally caught up. TBH none of the designs this season have made me go wow but again I’m no fashion expert lolJanuary 27, 2020 at 9:43 am #1203314528
This challenge was really fun, and Ashley’s prints were cool to see turned into clothing. It was nice to get another win for Brittany, who slayed it with a killer look. It was actually great to see all three of these designers in the top with really strong looks, since all three of them of designers I thought were really good who had not been exactly soaring lately. I was kind of shocked how well Delvin’s suit turned out, especially after the initial fitting where it did kind of look like pajamas. Dayoung’s look was also very good, I thought, and interesting. Sergio’s would have been a deserving top three look as well, but it wasn’t as bold as the top three that made it. As for the bottom, Victoria’s look probably was the worst, which I guess shows what a thin line it can be for her aesthetic between looking brilliant and looking pretty bad. Though I think I would have eliminated Nancy, making another oversized coat that was just an insane fit on the model. Marquis’s look wasn’t great, but it had more saving grace to it, and the bad blouse didn’t seem all that bad.
I’m concerned about Dayoung and how she doesn’t eat and then spends part of the challenge seeming like she’s going to pass out. I hope she’s able to get all that sorted out. I also hope Victoria is able to get out of her funk and, yes, actually design for the challenge this week.January 27, 2020 at 12:49 pm #1203314915
Marquis was next in line to go. Time to get rid of all of this deadweight and really get to the heart of the competition. Nancy is probably next on the chopping block, though I liked her print and coat a good deal. She unfortunately had a waifish model who was eaten alive by that oversized coat of hers. It would have looked better on a plus-sized model. I actually would have had Sergio’s cocoon look as top three with Brittany and Dayoung. Delvin’s look was a tad matronly to me, and I didn’t care for his print. This exposed an ugly side of Victoria being in the bottom, but it was completely her own damn fault for being above the challenge and not using her print properly. Ashley was a hoot BTW. Never heard of her before, just like with Marni last season, but I’d love to see more from both of them as future mentors for the designers.January 27, 2020 at 2:28 pm #1203315166
I love the tension with the Christian Save. No Marquise, it was never gonna be you. This is soooo reserved for Victoria as of now. Or Sergio.
The challenge was pretty cool, and that pattern lady was fun to watch, she either has a show somewhere or is gonna get a show one of these days.
Brittany (who I thought was named Tiffany until this episode) deserved her win 100%. Dayoung’s dress was super cool, but then I hated the purple lines as it immediately made me think of graduation. I don’t know why Delvin made the top with such a basic suit. Of course the moment they said “Versace” you knew he was in the top. But it still made no sense. It was too basic.
Sergio’s dress was awful from the front because the main dress was just another old lady dress. But everything else was cool. Geoffrey definitely deserved to be on the bottom over poor Nancy who didn’t listen to Christian’s critique. His model looked like Drag Race’s Aja in the Gaga runway (not really a bad thing) but what the F with that green fabric?
Finally, yes, Victoria’s was the worst. It was just a matter of pushing through. The only issue was “prints”. It’s not like it was a huge challenge. She could’ve done something MUCH better and now she finally has the critique we’ve all been waiting for. So it’s time for her downfall, or maybe (hopefully) not. I felt sorry for her as I understand how this can floor you and the last thing you need is people hugging you or talking to you. Or people making you explain shit. The whole situation looked sincere, especially when she said “I’d rather help Dayoung because I like her garment more than mine” (or whatever she said). You knew she had given up. But again, unlike anything that comes from Sergio, Victoria looked sincere.
In the end it was Marquise’s time to go. He’s another guy who can’t look past the curves on his model (which at least was a plus for Delvin) and decided to do this garment with that awful top.
