Sergio annoys me to no end, especially after he somewhat forcibly coached Tyler to make a look that got him eliminated, but I find Delvin fun to watch. He’s been overly confident in the past, but he’s way less arrogant than Sergio. He knew his terrible garment was terrible, where Sergio has made several terrible garments and seems baffled and offended when the judges critique them.
I actually prefer Sergio. At least he’s a bitch and makes for good TV. There’s nothing really that good, funny or fun about a guy who immediately after the challenge is announced shows up on screen saying:
I hate unconvential things.
I hate turning denim into clothes.
I don’t like prints.
I hate plus size models.
Red carpet is not my thing.
Avant garde is not for me.
I hate sportswear.
Designing for family members is not my thing.
I hate color.
I don’t like black.
He’s like a dark cloud.January 28, 2020 at 8:20 am #1203316458
I have a soft spot for Delvin. I find his performative confidence, with the coat and the finishing early and taking a nap and so on, to be kind of endearing. I don’t remember him saying most of this stuff, but I do remember Sergio finding a way every week to imply that he’s above this competition, and not in a way that’s fun or amusing.January 28, 2020 at 8:33 am #1203316497
Delvin so clearly suffers from depression that it makes me sad to watch sometimes. He tries to mask it with sarcasm and above-it-all-ness, but it’s there all the same. Very relatable.
Anyways, exit interview time. Marquis was a big dud here.January 28, 2020 at 9:53 am #1203316705

Of course I used examples from past seasons too as a joke. But it’s actually true. It’s a running joke between me and my friends since episode 1 because it has literally happened every single week. “Here comes Delvin already not liking X part about the challenge.” It’s the very first thing they show from him right after the challenge is announced.
For me, his problem (and Victoria’s) is that they somehow didn’t expect silly or ridiculous things to happen each challenge. They thought it was just gonna be “today, the challenge is black garments” and that would be it. And when the crazy twist comes, they break down.January 30, 2020 at 10:25 am #1203319939
Episode Title: “Sheer Genius”
Synopsis: The remaining designers realize that the challenges only get harder the longer they survive the competition when they’re faced with the hardest yet: a one-day challenge using some of the toughest textiles: sexy, sheer fabrics. As the challenges get more challenging, the competition heats up and just staying in the game becomes more and more difficult for several designers who are reaching their personal limits and question their ability to make it to the end. Another contestant is eliminated from the competition.

The results of this week’s challenge sure do make me wonder why this was a 1 day challenge. And then Karlie comes in and says “we can tell it was a 1 day challenge”.
The judges talking to Chelsea after she was eliminated sort of gave the impression that they were forced into keeping Victoria. But then Christian would’ve used the Save for Chelsea if that was the case.
I wonder if he’ll ever use it. It seemed destined for Victoria or Sergio, but now Sergio has immunity and the Save can’t go that far can it? And it seems Christian is done with Victoria.
Anyway, fun challenge, but another day would’ve given us some better results. I don’t think anything came as close as what Karlie was wearing while announcing the challenge. That would’ve been cool, instead we got regular dresses with sheer fabric for the top contestants and those who dared to do something different of course failed or semi-failed.
Victoria was a huge mess and should’ve gone home. Chelsea and Geoffrey also deserved to go home, but Victoria’s was bad all around.
Marquise coming back was not a good thing considering he had one of the worst designs. They clearly gave him a pass, but there was no need for him to be in the top. It was awful.
I suppose Sergio’s was the best and deserves his win, but regardless of all the technical details and execution, it was just a dress. And for a challenge like this, I kind of expected more out of everybody.
Best moment of the episode: Christian at Mood reacting to Geoffreys “do you like my design?” (or whatever he said) after crying some more about Dayoung.February 3, 2020 at 9:22 am #1203327845
I also wish they’d been given another day for the challenge, where they might have had time to do something really exciting. That said, I really liked most of the results. Chelsey’s and Victoria’s were terrible, and I do think Chelsey’s was slightly worse. I guess you’re right that Sergio’s dress wasn’t that interesting, but it looked great (other than that bottom row of tassels, which, why?). But I did also like Brittany, Marquis, and Delvin. Nancy’s and Geoffrey’s were okay. It always annoys me when the judges pick all black looks for the top three and then wonder why some designers shy away from color. Brittany was really the only person who did anything outside the box that didn’t bomb. I’d say also Geoffrey, but most of the judges didn’t like his. That moment with Geoffrey asking Christian if he liked his design in Mood was so awkward and so funny.
It was sad seeing Dayoung have to withdraw, but I’m glad to see that she’s apparently doing well now. It was odd, then, to get Marquis back and have Chelsey go home in the same episode. It just seems like an imbalance. I was very glad that Christian told Victoria that she’s just doing the same dress over and over again, which she somehow seemed not to realize.
Having a bunch of eliminated designers back as helpers next week will be fun.February 3, 2020 at 3:43 pm #1203328701
Victoria should have been sent home and you can tell that the guest judge would have selected Victoria to go home.February 4, 2020 at 3:07 pm #1203330030
Crazy episode. Sad to see Dayoung go home, but you could tell she wasn’t well and the competition was compromising her health. Thought I was done with dud Marquis, but here he is again. Victoria gives up the second she can’t do something within her comfort zone, which is increasingly tiresome and annoying. And poor Chelsey, who probably suffered from TPTB intervention as a disposable contender with a middling but not the worst design of the week. That was EASILY Victoria, but she’s not going anywhere. I’m kinda reeling TBH. I would have given the win to Nancy over Sergio, maybe for the shoulder ruffle flair in the former that at least had some excitement over the latter’s boring fringe. I actually thought Brittany would make top three over Marquis, who I guess redeemed himself with this look? I wasn’t too impressed with it, but the judges seem to love a comeback narrative. It rubbed me the wrong way that Brittany and Delvin just couldn’t believe Nancy and Marquis could possibly be top three. Just for being sore losers, sit your sour asses down in the safe room. I seem to remember with the Tim Gunn save, that was good until the final five. So even with Sergio’s last immunity, there’s still some time for Christian to use his save. It’s clear to me now that his save is only reserved for the final four: Sergio, Brittany, Delvin, and Victoria (with no genuine “villain” this season, she will be kept on for being hot and exotic until the finals). Marquis, Nancy, and Geoffrey, thanks for playing lol. Shitty math, but that’s the way the fabric crumbles, I guess.February 7, 2020 at 10:08 pm #1203334462
Redemption for Marquis?!? The horror lol! Everyone roots for an underdog and all, but I guess the judges saw something brilliant that I’m not really seeing. The design looks like the type of contrived unisex costume Marquis would wear to one of his ballroom shows from his background segments. Geoffrey’s tuxedo jumpsuit was everythingggg, bitches! He did that shit this week! I don’t get why he has so little confidence in himself. He was the clear winner for me, and I thought the bowtie was fine. Might have to rethink my final four predictions and find a spot for him in it. I actually liked Nancy’s look. It didn’t push the conversation forward, but it was striking for what it was. It’s sad how Nancy has to deal with such blatant ageism from the group. Delvin’s look was super-dated, so his smug ass belonged in the bottom. Sergio’s look was a poor-man’s Celine rip-off. That alone should have placed him in the bottom with Delvin and Brittany even with his immunity. Let Nancy be safe, and then a top three of Geoffrey, Marquis, and redemption for Victoria. Poor Brittany let the menswear challenge get the best of her. I practically predicted her to win the season outright, so it was tough to see her struggle like this. It would have been a deserved elimination as she really was the worst designer this time around. But Christian swoops in with the save! Just like I said earlier, TPTB reserved that save for one of FOUR people only (Brittany, Delvin, Sergio, or Victoria). And sure enough, that’s exactly what happened. Hopefully, Brittany will rally with the tie-dye challenge next week. Fun episode with the tuxedo redo theme and having male models. If Geoffrey continues to improve, he could wrestle a spot in the finals from one of the perceived frontrunners.February 7, 2020 at 10:46 pm #1203334483
I want Nancy to win next week to hand it to the other ignorant contestants that talked poorly about her.February 8, 2020 at 5:51 am #1203334673
Sergio is such an idiot. I could never try to sell that shitty story knowing that everybody on that runway knows that I’m a fucking liar. It makes no sense to me. And then the whole “what year was that?” with the Celine comparisons. I actually really liked
It, and he should’ve just said “you know what? Celine is the first person I thought about and I wanted to modernize it and that would’ve been enough. At least for me. Because Celine Dion wishes this was the dress she wore to that Oscar show. It’s so much better, modern and very well made. But no, he had to go on with his regular bullshit.
As I said previously, the Save had to be used very soon because time is running out and Christian is very much over Sergio and Victoria, so Brittany gets it. Easy prediction once the runway started and Brittany’s outfit came out. It was obvious they couldn’t eliminate anybody else.
Geoffrey’s look was great, but the waste line bothered me too much. Nancy would’ve been safe if there were enough people to be judged or be safe.
Victoria could’ve and should’ve won. Marquise’s dress and jacket, while great, immediately made you think of Billy Porter, especially since the Oscar outfit was shown earlier. Victoria’s was something you could see Charlize wearing tomorrow at the Oscars.
And finally, did they forget about Trey Parker and Matt Stone wearing dresses at the Oscars? Or are they trying to sell Billy Porter as the first because his dress wasn’t a joke? Joke or not, he wasn’t the first.February 10, 2020 at 8:53 am #1203341584
Does it seem like Christian’s mentoring is sometimes hurting the contestants more than helping? I’m thinking of last week, when he was yelling at Victoria not to go into the aisle with all of the sheer fabrics at Mood, but then later complained that her look was not sheer enough, sending her into a spiral. This week, he coaxed Delvin away from his original fabric to the green wool that the judges very much disliked. I’m not sure either would have done better otherwise, but it didn’t feel helpful at all.
This was a good challenge, though, and outside of Brittany’s, everyone’s looks were pretty good. Sergio annoyed me with his made-up story and his apparent ignorance of Celine Dion’s iconic fashions. It seems surprising he wouldn’t know about that backwards tuxedo, literally my first thought when he mentioned his idea, and that no one would have mentioned it to him. I would have gone with Geoffrey or Victoria for the win. Marquise’s jacket was cool, but the rest of the outfit was so-so for me. He should have done something to make that flap of fabric around the pant look more constructed and less like it was just tacked on. I feel kind of bad for Nancy that she overheard the Delvin and Brittany talking about her. Clearly she feels somewhat ostracized by the other designers, and it doesn’t help that she mostly hangs out with Sergio, who annoys everyone. I got very excited when she picked up that print fabric, but then she made the same pants she made two weeks ago and a sleeveless top that wasn’t particularly interesting.
I had totally forgotten about Trey Parker and Matt Stone wearing those dresses to the Oscars.
