Episode Title: “Live and Let Tie Dye”

Synopsis: Tie dye is back in a big way, and the remaining designers will need to create their own textiles to elevate the trend from casual to couture. In a twist that may feel more like a trick to the designers, it’s an overnight challenge! The designers go a bit mad working into the wee hours trying to perfect their techniques and complete their high-end looks. Another contestant is eliminated from the competition.

Rough 24 hours for my man Delvin.

This was a fun episode, though. I loved seeing the scenes with all the designers eating pizza and goofing around in the wee hours of the late night/early morning, and having Leslie Jones as a guest judge gave a good dose of humor to the runway show, which the designers needed at that point.

I was surprised how good almost everything coming down the runway compared to how it looked in the work room. Geoffrey’s dress was looking like a winner from the first peek of it we got on the dress form, and Sergio’s was also great, much much better than I thought it would turn out when he was describing it. (Plus I was faked out by Sergio’s call to his boyfriend, which made me think he was getting eliminated.) I was also impressed with Nancy’s tie-dyed fabric, which looked fantastic, though it annoyed me that she was in the top for making those same pants and a top that was just fabric draped over her model and pinned. I thought Marquis would get dinged a little more because his outfit didn’t look like something anyone over the age of 12 could wear. I thought Victoria would be out because her outfit was such a mess, but I get why Delvin got the boot. He took out any real signature elements so it wouldn’t be too similar to other things he’s done, but just ended up with a basic dress in a basic tie dye. The concept he described was so cool, and I was picturing a cool triple ombre effect with red, orange and yellow, something silky and flowy. Sadly, that didn’t happen.

Delvin not making it to the finals is somewhat sad to see. I thought for sure at least one black designer would be there, but that might not happen at all now. Or could Marquis stumble his way there instead? I don’t think that would be merited based on his collective output, but I guess stranger things have happened. A finale with Sergio, Geoffrey, Brittany, and Teflon Victoria is what I’ll currently go with in predictions. The tie-dye challenge was another inventive one, and I liked the overnight component of it to keep the designers on their toes. It would be so karmic for Nancy to outlast all the designers that doubted her (Delvin being one of them). I’m not sure she has the chops for a full collection though. Marquis’s aesthetics are usually tacky to me, so whatever. I’m thrilled for Geoffrey though, and hopefully this will be the confidence boost he needs to go all the way. Brittany redeemed herself from last week’s disaster and justified Christian’s save. Sergio’s look was nice, but I would have wanted more of the yellow to “pop” on the dress itself. I see now that the judges will never send Victoria home if they haven’t already with “diaper jeans” and “tie-dye vomit” comments somehow not being enough for elimination. The worst I can say about Delvin’s look that it was old-fashioned and the dreaded “dated.” The colors were a tad matronly too. I’ll miss the lab coat the most lol. And yay for Leslie Jones enlivening a mostly dull runway with all the “characters” gone at this point (re: Alan, Tyler, Shavi, etc.)! “I’m mad at this model for wrinkling my dress up!” lmao.

Oh yes, Situation Workspace (Happy Endings joke). It’s…okay. I don’t get why this show decided to do the team/partner format when they must know how perfectly awful that turned out for Project Runway during Michelle’s season and it even went horrible for Drag Race, which might not have been popular back then, but it’s a running joke now, so a lot of people on this show must know how it went. What we get is a bunch of people compromising everything to please each other and lackluster outfits.

And then there’s the whole flowy, baggy situation which is the only style of design we got during many, many episodes. It’s like none of them has ever tailored a garment before. And sorry, but I can’t get over the whole deconstructing and constructing the set over and over again for no reason at all.

I do like Tan as a judge, don’t like Alexa that much. The designers don’t make quite a good cast either. I’m exactly on the episode where they’re separated. Let’s see how it goes after that.

I can’t imagine any other scenario than Delvin being voted off for yet another old lady outfit, and this one didn’t even look like it was well made or fit her right. But yeah, Victoria made one of the worst things I’ve seen on the show. It was bad and very much avoidable. And then of course her attitude. But would’ve voted off Delvin too.

Geoffrey 100% deserved his win, everything looked perfect. I thought Nancy did a perfect job with the dye, she just needed a better top. Sergio, I don’t know. I liked it when I first saw it in the workroom and then on the runway, and the dye job was great, but when they made the model open the dress and the whole lemmon comment came up, it was like, yeah, this is Geoffrey’s win for sure, Sergio just made a simple dress that has some panels I can’t even see or care about, honestly.

Brittany did good, Marquise would’ve been on the bottom for the styling and look alone but other people did way worse, which is why they didn’t even consider him for the bottom because the other two were more than enough.

I also suppose Sergio, Brittany and Geoffrey are going to the final. With the final spot between Marquise and Victoria, ’cause no way in hell is anybody thinking Nancy’s going to the finale. We’ve seen this type of contestant many times before and we know they don’t make it.

I like Nancy, but I also don’t think any of the designers have really said anything about her or her work that wasn’t true. I would’ve eliminated her before now, and I can’t really see her making the finale, though at this point who am I to doubt it. She made the same pants three times in a row! That’s ridiculous. Victoria’s a tough case because her early season work feels finale worthy, but also she should have been eliminated a couple of times by now. While the early favorites seemed to be Victoria, Brittany and Sergio, no one really feels locked in at this point. I think the only person left who I can’t see them having gotten rid of at any point is Geoffrey, which is weird, because he was pretty under the radar for a while.

I only just learned that Next in Fashion is a thing, but haven’t seen it yet. Maybe if I have PR withdrawal once this is over, I’ll dive in.

    Episode Title: “Olympic Game Plan”

Synopsis: Designing for a client can be tough, especially when your client is a star athlete with high expectations. In this challenge, the remaining designers are paired up with a real athlete who will be competing to be in the 2020 Summer Olympic and Paralympic games. The designers need to make them their dream outfit for a victory night celebration, using all of their skills to make the perfect proportions for their clients unique bodies, all while keeping their own point of view amongst a tough client challenge. Another contestant is eliminated from the competition.

Lamesauce. I needs eliminations! Nancy easily won this challenge with the best and classiest design of the field, so good going for her. It would make so many people seetheeee to have her in the final four, so I’m somewhat rooting for her now.

The Olympic challenge was somewhat disappointing. I didn’t think any of the designs were particularly inspiring. Nancy was aided by a strong story/client because I don’t think that dress was anything special if it was removed from this specific challenge. I did appreciate that the judges sent the Olympians off the runway before their critiques. It’s been incredibly awkward in the past when the judges attack a certain design in front of the client.

I’m hopeful for an exciting Avant-Garde challenge next week. I’m really interested in the designers using their point of views to tackle the daunting task. I would be surprised if Geoffrey and Sergio are not among the final four. I believe the other two slots are up for grabs.

Nancy has really been the underdog this season and I wouldn’t begrudge her a spot in the final. Brittany and Victoria, I suspect, are more likely, the former with her Siriano Save narrative and the latter with her numerous visits to the top three and her strong aesthetic.

Heidi and Tim’s new show “Make the Cut” premieres March 27 on Amazon.

It’s basically another Project Runway. Which is not a bad thing. Apparently people like Naomi Campbell and Nicole Richie are appearing in several episodes, I suppose as judges.
