Pretty good first two episodes. I thought this gave a nice re-introduction to queens from older seasons that I’m unfamiliar with (like Jessica Wild, Monica Beverly Hills. etc.), or queens I’ve never seen compete before (JIMBO). Some obvious glow-ups (Kahanna Montrese, whew! Jaymes Mansfield, Heidi ‘n Closet), and yay for Darienne Lake’s weight loss. I’ll push back on the random “no-names” complaints for the season. Since there’s been so many “All-Stars” iterations at this stage, unless they start repeating queens full-stop, we’re gonna get more obscure gurls moving forward, and that’s a good thing! Let’s showcase some slept-on talent for a change. We’ve already established the careers of queens like Jujubee, Ginger Minj, Latrice, Manila, etc. I’d rather have seen a talent show for the premiere than team challenges with those awful Bailey & Barbato remixes. Never again! The second episode fared much better with the “SNL” rip-off, though I call producers rigor morris with the JIMBO/Pangina pairing. Like, seriously lmao. Heidi was more of a standout to me, but you really can’t take your eyes off of JIMBO, and she had the best runway of the episode by a wide margin. Kahanna’s rollercoaster ride of being the top one episode to the bottom the next was hilarious, but in general, I like seeing early-eliminated queens have the opportunity for Rudemption, and she’s certainly spent the money for it through all of that plastic surgery. No problems with the first two eliminations. I have no real connection to Monica Beverly Hills, and she looked uncomfortable all through the first episode, so whatever. Naysha talks a good game, but for her actual output shown, another whatever. I expected far more glow-up from a former Miss Continental. Some exquisite runways overall, and surprisingly, a couple of my favorite looks were actually from the Famous Then/Famous Now mini-challenge in the premiere. Aja killed it in the “Freakum Dress” lip-sync (though I don’t need all of these tired “BDay” songs; use that MTV money for more of Beyoncé’s immense catalog, plz!). “She-Bop” was messier and more of a draw, but I’m fine with the cash pot building up. I miss having the sew-room deliberations, b/c I need to see the bottom two gurls begging and sucking up to the winner for their lives pre-lip-sync! The “Fame Games” twist sounds like a nothingburger, except for the cash prize, I guess. Haven’t seen any “Untucked” episodes yet, but I’ve skimmed clips of Alexis Michelle dramatics out of context. All of these new class queens like Jan, Marcia 3X, Rosé, Denali, Joey Jay, Irene, etc., weaponizing those BFAs and athletics, and all Alexis has to say is, “Hold my drink!” lmao. Excited to see where the season goes!

WHAT!?
Girl Darienne Lake, Heidi, Kandy and Kasha were some of the best/most fun queens on their seasons! Maybe you just need a little re-watch, they had some iconique moments. Really like all the other girls too, and am glad to see some of the queens eliminated earlier like Jaymes, Kahanna, and Monica get a chance to shine.
I really liked the SNL skit episode and overall thought it was a very strong showing for almost everyone. They did a great job. Sad Naysha is sashaying early AGAIN, girl can’t catch a break. I agree that I could have made an argument for Heidi winning here, she was great, but Jimbo deserved the win.
And I agree the “twist” of the fan vote is meh, feels like just a replacement for Ms. Congeniality and is also inevitably going to get really toxic and messy, too. Drag Race fans being given decision responsibilities via vote? A mess.
I haven’t watched Untucked for either episode yet but sounds like I’m missing out and need to tune in immediately.
And I’m glad Bianca is back for Pit Stop. Love that rotted bitch.
ReplyCopy URLMay 19, 2023 at 2:33 pm #1205433069Heidi got done WRONG! I personally would have given her the win, but at the very least, she should have been in the top. I would have put her in the top over Jimbo. You knew La La would be in the top due to her redemption from her season. Also, she looked great so I’m fine with her being in the top 3. Not sure why Jimbo got in over Heidi, but Heidi wasn’t having it. I’m not watching Untucked, mainly because I don’t watch Untucked. I can’t with all that. But I read the recap!
ReplyCopy URLMay 21, 2023 at 10:13 pm #1205437020I think the “supermarket ball” challenge was too flimsy an idea for anyone to really achieve greatness, like going so literal for the dairy one with three cowhide looks gave me shades of Kimonogate. Yay for Jessica Wild netting that $30K, but all of that felt so engineered with nothing competition from Rajah O’Hara and lip-syncing to an incredibly dumb Kim Petras song. Yara Sofia did the bouncing tits routine far better anyways. Too bad for Mrs. Kasha Davis, but she telegraphed her elimination with that exit speech during judging, so whatever. It reeked of ageism having both Kasha and Darienne Lake in the bottom two, but I guess that’s where the runways were leading us toward. I would have had most of the safe queens in the top tier. Heidi and Kahanna should have competed for the win this episode. Even Jaymes delivered some cleverness to go along with her usual camp aesthetic. Lala getting a top-three placement for an obvious Rudemption arc of the gift bag dress … yawn, barf, gross, and everything else undeserved. I would have had the winning three of Kahanna, Jaymes, and Heidi; safe four of Alexis, Jimbo, Lala, and Jessica; bottom three of Kandy Muse, Darienne, and Kasha. The playfulness of Kahanna’s runways sold me on her win, but she doesn’t need two maxi-challenge wins this early. Darienne hopefully has more to show than what we’ve seen so far, but I sense a level of tentativeness and unease with her runway looks post-weight loss, like she’s still figuring out how to properly maneuver in her new frame. I’m on the RECORD though for loving Darienne’s tongue-in-cheek Billie Eilish look from the mini-challenge premiere, haters be damned.
