ReplyCopy URLOver and out! I thought that I’d miss the glitz and glamour of the usual season finale, but I surprisingly didn’t. Ru’s awful facekini aside, I was oddly drawn into this DIY quarantined finale. Nice enough for what it was, and each finalist rose to the occasion under very unusual circumstances. Congrats to Jaida Essence Hall! Not my choice to win, b/c pageant queens bore me to no end, but she did what she needed to do to snatch the crown. I rooted hard for Crystal Method here, and with the underdog element in play and social media so clearly in her corner, I was primed for an upset. Her “I’m Like a Bird” was the performance of the night, hands-down. So creative and inspired! Loved all of her looks, but the final lip-sync wasn’t probably “enough” of a performance to clinch the deal. The minute Ru announced that “Survivor” was the final song choice, I knew that would favor Jaida. I fully braced myself for Gigi’s win all the same. The eyelash syncopation to “Bring Back My Girls” was hawt, and as far as production values go, “Take on Me” was well beyond what everyone else did. I just found her “confidence” to be full-on cockiness. There was no “towing the line.” If you’re aiming to be Aquaria 2.0, at least try to show some of the humility that she displayed in her season. And after the horrible edit Gigi was given in that stretch of episodes near the end, some Rudemption would have served her well. As for Jaida, the face lip-sync was fine. Underwhelming and borderline weak Ciara song choice, and I could find countless videos on YouTube right now of queens dancing like that in their living rooms. But she brought it on “Survivor.” Full credit where credit is due there. Heidi winning Miss Congeniality was fantastic and well-earned! This was an insane season full of drama enough for multiple seasons. SherryPieGate was primed to derail the entire season, Gigi steamrolled until she didn’t, Jan played it safe, Aiden made the gurls panini pressed, Brita spat on everyone, Widow sank, Crystal and Heidi ascended, Rock M. cried, Dahlia stormed off, and then the world changed forever with Miss Corona. Sad that this season’s queens won’t get the shine that they truly deserve, and then next week the RuVerse moves on to “All-Stars” like this season didn’t happen at all. Oh well lmao! Onto to “AS5,” bitches!
ReplyCopy URLGigi should’ve won. She killed all three lip syncs, while Jaida’s home video lip sync to Ciara was absolutely AWFUL. Gigi’s Take On Me was absolutely freaking amazing, her face lip sync was perfect, and the reveals in her lip sync for the crown were genius. Jaida won for other reasons rather than deserving it.

A nice return to the pageant queen, to the classic queen, but with enough edge, humor and good looks to also be considered modern enough next to recent winners. Her weakest moment was definitely the Ciara performance, I mean, she didn’t jump on the couch? She killed the Survivor lipsync, she had a narrative as well, she was nice as fuck throughout and even on her weak moments during the season she remained a top contender.
However, I think Gigi won the season hands down. She had a problem with being “too good” in the first half and then having those bad couple of episodes in the second half, but she had enough of a comeback in the final episode. And the election was her one true awful moment. Not a lot of queens, even winners, can say they fucked up this little. During the finale she killed the face lip sync, but I felt her Take on Me needed much better (easy) editing, even if her set and makeup/outfit were excellent. She just left me wanting more there. Once Ru said Survivor was the final song, I knew she wasn’t gonna win. It was chosen to be a Jaida moment.
Crystal could’ve used better looks and a better final lipsync, but she owned all the lipsyncs with her I’m Like a Bird performance. Sadly, that one wasn’t gonna be as important as the final lipsync, and she was just never gonna win.
It was a great season. It could’ve used some drama between the girls, or at least some better relationships, it looked as if they hardly ever showed them in the workroom except for the walkthroughs and the forced makeup confessions and sad stories. But it was truly great with all 13 girls being very good at some point and all of them having some amazing moments to remember. Yes, even Sherry. Casting was a HUGE improvement after season 11.
It’s awful that the Sherry and Corona situations happened and robbed us of what could’ve been a perfect season. Let’s move on to All Stars and finally see what the fuck they did to that show.

At least it was better than the reunion. I know it was a pijama party, sleepover or whatever, but you know Ru would never go to one of those with a purple hoodie and a light blue facemask. Okay, leave the facemask, but wear something better. This look wasn’t actually that bad. But that doens’t mean it could’ve been better, even done by herself.
