Season 2 premieres on Monday, April 13, 2020 @ 10 PM ET on NBC. Superstars turn songwriters’ dreams into their next big hits with the help of top producers.
Ryan Tedder, the lead singer of OneRepublic and a four-time Grammy Award-winning songwriter and producer for Adele, Taylor Swift, and Beyoncé; Ester Dean, a Grammy-nominated songwriter and producer for Rihanna, Katy Perry, and Nicki Minaj, as well as an actress who starred in the “Pitch Perfect” film franchise; and Shane McAnally, a Grammy-winning songwriter and producer for Kacey Musgraves, Kelly Clarkson, and Sam Hunt, who has 38 #1 country records and was named the 2019 ACM Songwriter of the Year.
Each song’s lyrics, arrangements, beats, melody, and story will be considered by the panel as the producers and guest artist engage in a lively discussion about ways to creatively adapt them to better fit the style and sensibility of the recording artist of the week.
First up is Lady Antebellum.

ReplyCopy URLApril 14, 2020 at 5:41 am #1203425782So I HATED the song Ryan worked on but loved the other two. Figured the second one would win tbh. The merch alone should be amazing at concerts.
ReplyCopy URLApril 14, 2020 at 9:43 am #1203426253It would have been interesting to see each producer take I’d Drink to That and produce it in their own style. Champagne Night was the best of the songs and am glad Lady A chose it.
ReplyCopy URLApril 16, 2020 at 1:19 pm #1203430759Nice return! It was pretty magical seeing these songs go from a raw creative form to something so polished at the end. I would have picked the “Long Way Home” as the winner, since I felt those lyrics in a more meaningful and timeless way than the others. Snatch that shit up, Chris Stapleton! “Champagne Night” is very disposable and forgettable, but if that’s the blind spot that Lady Antebellum needs in its catalogue, so be it. Too bad if they chose this simply as a touring song or opening number when no one is going to be touring in large venues for a long, long time, or at best the foreseeable future. Oh well. The quarantine video at the end was cute. Loved the enthusiasm of Ryan, Shane, & Ester! I kinda wanted to see each of them net a win, though I figured Shane would have the leg up with LA, and of course, that’s exactly how it turned out. Looking forward to the rest of the season!
ReplyCopy URLApril 21, 2020 at 9:20 am #1203439080The first song and the winner song were the best ones but I am so glad he chose “Sway”.
ReplyCopy URLApril 21, 2020 at 10:36 am #1203439206I would have picked any of the songs other than “Sway”, but I’m not remotely the audience for this song, so whatever lol. It was very clichéd to me, but that’s Luis Fonsi’s sound in a nutshell. The Spanish-language song would of course win out in the end. I really liked the “I Don’t Wanna Know” song, but the 2nd version really drowned out the female songwriter. That was unfortunate. The “Lost in Translation” song was amazing. That sounded like a genuine crossover hit to me. Oh wells. Next week is “H.E.R.,” which is an incredible get, “SONGLAND”! Can’t wait!
ReplyCopy URLApril 28, 2020 at 7:40 am #1203451234All four of these songs would have been great choices for “H.E.R.” to pick from. My favorite of the lot was “Scary.” I thought that Ester might have the upper hand here like Shane does with the country artists, but Ryan took this one too! Ester needs a win lol!
ReplyCopy URLApril 28, 2020 at 11:04 am #1203451561liked them all but ryan and shane made their songs really pop
ReplyCopy URLMay 5, 2020 at 6:11 am #1203464138Finally Ester nets a win for season 2! And for a country artist? Take that, Shane lol! Nice song choice for Martina McBride. I had a feeling she would land on the song written and produced by women, and the other song by the female songwriter wasn’t as strong as “Girls Like Me.”
