All good song choices so win win win all around. Praying Andy Grammer and Tori Kelly snatch up the othersMay 12, 2020 at 8:35 am #1203477813
“Numb” should have been the clear winner there. Ester’s production was sick! I think the winning song suffered from the weak singer they chose to sing the revised song instead of the songwriter, who was relegated to being a guitar player on his completely rewritten song. I’d even picked “Sad Girls” over what won, as it seemed like Julia Micheals made such a connection with the woman who wrote the song as fellow depression sufferers. Oh well.May 18, 2020 at 4:28 pm #1203488721
Florida Georgia Line is the featured artist tonight.May 19, 2020 at 3:42 am #1203489460
The final three songs all had great bones. I think I would have chosen “Lean On,” as it had the freshest production of the bunch and the one that melded country and urban elements the best. Picking the ballad of the group is genuinely surprising. “Second Guessing” is a lovely ballad, but for Florida Georgia Line? The clips of the duo singing it was kinda disappointing. A song like “Second Guessing” should have landed in the hands of a better and more vocally adept artist. I’m biased since I find FGL’s genre-jumping music to be very obnoxious and cliched, but anyways. I’m glad Ryan’s dumbed-down rewrite of “High Hopes” didn’t get chosen. “What You’re Puttin’ Down”? No thank you. Lukr is quite the character. I hope he gets this exposure to cut the original song for himself as a pop song. Also, the female songwriter should find a sassy country star like Kacey Musgraves, Carrie Underwood, or Miranda Lambert for “That’s a Country Song.” It was never gonna work with two big country dudes singing it, but a woman? Absolutely. Also interesting that three of these songwriters were Canadian, and Lukr’s from Pennsylvania lol. Country music is becoming more mainstream by the day, which I already knew through the inexplicable rise of Lil Nas X, but still.May 19, 2020 at 10:20 am #1203489869

Boyz II Men is the featured artist tonight.May 26, 2020 at 9:12 am #1203501636
All three songs winning is kind of a copout, since it is technically a competition. But nice all the same, I guess. I would have picked “What If It’s Love” out of this batch, but I get that they were looking for something completely different and modern to update their sound. “Love Struck” is catchy and certainly different, so mission accomplished, Boyz II Men!May 26, 2020 at 9:20 am #1203501662
Very glad about this outcome 🙂June 1, 2020 at 6:07 am #1203511417
Bebe Rexha is the featured artist tonight.June 2, 2020 at 5:27 am #1203512688
Cute mashup! This was a lively episode, and Bebe Rexha was one of the show’s best artists yet. I do wonder how “organic” these kinds of spontaneous decisions are, like multiple winners or what happened here. It could easily be TPTB machinations to keep a reality show fresh and interesting. Usually ties would be a clear copout to me. It’s a competition. Pick one winner already. But this really worked for me, and it was kinda amazing to hear the final product. Poor third guy tho lol. Being the only one who didn’t win must have hurt. I wouldn’t have picked his song anyway. It was never anthemic to me in either version. I liked the song from the woman they didn’t pick the best. She has a very unique and compelling voice. Hope she releases the song herself like Sam DeRosa did, who oddly happened to be on tonight singing one of the revamped songs. “Pill for This” should have won for DeRosa in her episode over what actually won. Regardless, nice winner. Too bad there’s no Tokyo Olympics for this song to promote. I wonder what happens now. I think it’s being held for next year, since the song is nowhere to be found on iTunes today.June 2, 2020 at 9:19 am #1203512849
My least fav episode so far…..the songs weren’t great.June 8, 2020 at 10:59 am #1203521820
Ben Platt is the featured artist tonight.June 9, 2020 at 7:46 am #1203523357
Ben Platt chose the song I hoped he would, so yay for that! He sounds great in the final version too, BTW, which is always a plus. All four songs could have worked for his new pop-leaning sound, I think. I knew the last song was a goner the moment she said her song was called “Deathbed” lol. These judges would never allow that, since they’re about uplift all the time. Sometimes I think they underestimate their listening audience and dumb down these songs more than they need, but that’s for another debate. Usher is next week in the season finale! Sad to see the show go, as it’s become something I look forward to seeing every week. If it comes back next year whenever, I think they should consider a revolving door of producers to spice up the format some.
